About Us

L. Johnson Construction Inc. (LJC) is a leading Southern California masonry construction company, known for delivering high-quality projects and maintaining strong client relationships. As we continue to grow, we're seeking a skilled Accounting Manager who is eager to grow into higher-level financial responsibilities, including the potential for a future Controller role as the company expands.

This is an onsite role based in Gardena, California. Reliable, daily onsite presence is required. This is not a remote or partially remote role.

The Role

As Accounting Manager, you'll oversee all accounting functions, ensure financial accuracy, and work directly with ownership on long-term planning. This is a hands-on leadership role with a path toward higher-level financial leadership responsibilities, and it is ideal for someone who thrives in an entrepreneurial environment where your work drives immediate impact. This position reports directly to the President/CFO. This position has one direct report.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including A/P, A/R, payroll, and job-cost tracking
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure GAAP compliance
  • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
  • Monitor project costs, billings, and collections
  • Highly responsive to ownership needs
  • Collaborate with ownership on cash flow management and long-term growth strategy
  • Ensure compliance with tax filings, audits, and regulatory requirements
  • Implement process improvements and support systems for our team to ensure a seamless workflow between departments and C-Suite staff
  • Keep the company calendar updated with all accounting deadlines for AP, AR, etc., to ensure transparency and maintain a clear view of the month, quarter, and year ahead.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver time-sensitive information and proactively communicate status updates to ownership
  • Strong critical thinking and decision-making skills, with the ability to evaluate financial issues and recommend solutions
  • Take full ownership of the accounting function and operate with minimal supervision while supporting leadership in day-to-day and strategic financial decisions
  • Train, grow, and guide one direct report

Qualifications

  • A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred but not required. Equivalent experience will be considered
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a leadership or Accounting Manager role
  • Strong knowledge of construction accounting, job costing, and percentage-of-completion reporting
  • Strong proficiency with QuickBooks, Sage100, and Microsoft Excel. Experience with BuilderTrend CRM is a plus
  • Excellent time and task organization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and communication skills

Pay: $85, $95,000.00 per year
