Job Summary
We are seeking a professional and detail-oriented Dental Receptionist to join our dental practice. The ideal candidate will serve as the first point of contact for patients, managing front desk operations, scheduling appointments, and ensuring smooth communication between patients and clinical staff. This role requires excellent customer service skills, proficiency with dental and medical office systems, and a solid understanding of healthcare administrative procedures. The Dental Receptionist will play a vital role in maintaining accurate patient records, verifying insurance, and supporting overall office efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients warmly and provide exceptional patient service at the front desk
  • Schedule, confirm, and reschedule patient appointments using EMR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, or similar platforms
  • Verify insurance coverage and benefits, including Medicare and other third-party payers
  • Collect payments and perform medical billing tasks, including CPT coding, ICD-10/ICD-9 coding, and documentation review
  • Manage multi-line phone systems with professional phone etiquette and handle patient inquiries effectively
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations
  • Assist with insurance verification processes and follow up on outstanding claims or payments
  • Support administrative tasks such as filing, data entry (10 key typing), and managing office supplies
  • Coordinate with clinical staff to ensure proper documentation of treatment plans and care coordination
  • Utilize computer skills to operate office management software like Meditech, eClinicalWorks, or Athenahealth for record keeping and scheduling
  • Ensure compliance with health information management standards and dental terminology protocols
  • Perform clerical duties including filing, faxing, scanning documents, and managing patient intake forms

Qualifications

  • Prior experience in a dental office or medical clinic environment is highly preferred
  • Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Eaglesoft, Dentrix, Meditech, or similar platforms
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD coding (ICD-10/ICD-9), and insurance billing processes
  • Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality and data security
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel) and typing accuracy (10 key typing)
  • Excellent customer service skills with professional phone etiquette and bilingual abilities are a plus
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently in a fast-paced environment
  • Office management experience including appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and documentation review is desirable
  • High school diploma or equivalent; additional certification in health information management or medical administration is advantageous
