*Job Duties:*
* To assist physician in evaluating the patients by applying diagnosis and prognostic muscle, nerve, joint and functional ability tests.
* Treat patients to relieve pain, develop or restore function and maintain performance, using physical means, such as exercise, massage, heat, water, light and electricity.
* Directs and aides the patient in active and passive exercises, muscle re-education and gait and functional training, activities of daily living, including transfer activities and prosthetic training.
* Makes use of equipment such as ultraviolet and infrared lamps, low voltage generators, diathermy and ultrasonic machines.
* Observes, records, and reports to the physician the patient’s reaction to treatment and any changes in the patient’s condition. Prepare written summary to the physician at least every two months/sixty-two (62) days.
* Instructs patients in care and use of wheelchairs, braces, crutches, canes and prosthetic and orthotic devices.
* Instructs other health personnel and family members in certain phases of the therapy program of which they may assist the patient.
* Communicates with the director of Nurses, nurse supervisor and/or primary nurse assigned to the patient, the need for a continuation of therapy services for each patient.
* Documents each visit made to the patient and incorporates notes into the clinical record at least weekly.
* Prepares written discharge summary in the patient’s clinical record and a copy forwarded to the attending physician.
*Qualification for the Physical Therapist:*
*Licensed by the State of Louisiana and has graduated from a curriculum approved by:*
* The American P.T. Association or
* The Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association or
* The Council on Medical Education of the American Medical Association and the American Physical Therapy Association.
