Position Overview
As a Day Supports Specialist (DSP) at Nita's Touch, you will support individuals in developing daily living skills, social relationships, and independence through structured, engaging day activities—both in our center and in the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Support daily living skills, socialization, and adaptive behavior
- Facilitate meaningful group and community-based activities
- Implement goals from each participant's Individual Support Plan (ISP)
- Promote choice, independence, and self-determination
- Provide 1:1 support when authorized
- Follow behavior plans and safety guidelines
- Complete required documentation accurately
- Assist with transportation for community activities (if applicable)
Job Overview
We are seeking compassionate and dedicated Day Support Professionals to provide high-quality care and assistance to individuals in a community or residential setting. The ideal candidate will support residents with daily activities, health monitoring, and emotional well-being, fostering a safe and nurturing environment. This role offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with diverse needs, including those with developmental disabilities, dementia, or other health conditions. Candidates should possess a strong commitment to patient-centered care and adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations.
Responsibilities
- Assist residents with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support
- Monitor residents' vital signs and overall health status, including blood pressure, pulse, and temperature
- Administer medications following care plans and HIPAA guidelines
- Support residents with meal preparation, feeding, and dietary needs in accordance with individual care plans
- Provide companionship and emotional support to promote mental well-being
- Observe and document changes in residents' behavior or health conditions for team review
- Assist with mobility using equipment such as Hoyer lifts or other assistive devices
- Maintain a clean and safe environment through regular cleaning and sanitation practices
- Follow safety protocols including CPR, First Aid, Alzheimer's care, dementia care, and hospice care procedures
- Collaborate with team members to develop and implement personalized care plans tailored to each resident's needs
- Support residents during outings or community activities to promote social engagement
Qualifications
- Prior experience working in assisted living, long-term care, home & community care, or similar settings preferred
- Knowledge of patient observation, medication administration, and vital signs monitoring required
- Certifications such as CPR, First Aid, HIPAA compliance training highly desirable
- Experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, dementia or Alzheimer's is advantageous
- Ability to assist with ADLs including heavy lifting when necessary (e.g., resident transfers)
- Strong communication skills and patience when working with seniors or individuals with special needs
- Compassionate attitude with a genuine desire to improve residents' quality of life
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Flexibility to work various shifts as needed; previous experience in nursing home or hospice care is a plus
