Position Title: Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) Float

Reports To: Chief Operations Officer (COO)

Classification: Hourly; non exempt

Attendance at HIPAA and compliance educational programs is a requirement of employment.

SUMMARY:

In an outpatient clinical setting; assists with direct patient care, and performs specialized medical procedures of a routine nature, as dictated by established clinical protocol. LPN may also provide initial triage, registration, and administrative services as needed. In addition, the LPN is also responsible for implementing, maintaining, and educating staff members on OSHA, CLIA, and Safety.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assists with direct patient care procedures and related tasks; checks in patients, assists in obtaining patient histories, takes vital signs, prepares charts, and assists with medical examinations.
  • Performs routine specialized procedures such as EKG, FBS, suture/staple removal, ear irrigation, nebulizer treatments, and sterile dressing changes etal.
  • Maintains inventories and stocks medicines, vaccines, immunizations and medical supplies as necessary.
  • Maintains knowledge and expertise pertaining to OSHA and CLIA standards.
  • Develops and maintains an effective and informative training program for all staff members on OSHA, CLIA, Biohazard Waste, and Safety.
  • Records/Monitors refrigerator temperature and controls on all lab equipment/tests.
  • Interviews and reviews patients for financial status, as appropriate.
  • Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues as directed by the provider.
  • Performs patient education and discharge instructions.
  • Completes referrals and schedules tests for patients.
  • Retrieves lab reports and tests from other health care providers.
  • Assists the clinical coordinator with additional tasks.
  • Schedules and monitors patient appointments; may coordinate routine office activities and administrative functions in support of unit activities.
  • Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
  • May recruit patients for studies and may participate in outreach clinical activities as required.
  • Actively participates in the Quality Improvement Program and on other committees as needed.
  • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties at various locations as assigned.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Graduated from an accredited school of nursing, least 2 years nursing experience office based preferred.
  • Prior experience with OSHA, CLIA, Safety, and Immunizations highly preferred.
  • BLS certification within 90 days of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Development, Communication and Organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform standard clinical procedures according to established protocols.
  • Ability to perform routine invasive procedures, such as EKG, FBS, suture/staple removal, ear irrigation, and nebulizer treatments etal.
  • Knowledge of patient evaluation and triage procedures.
  • Ability to maintain quality, safety, and/or infection control standards.
  • Knowledge of inventory management practices.
  • Ability to maintain calendars and schedule appointments.
  • Knowledge of patient care charts and patient histories.
  • Knowledge of outpatient clinical administrative procedures.
  • The ability to distinguish letters and symbols as well as the ability to utilize telephones, computer terminals, fax machines, and copiers is required.
  • Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Must be willing to submit to post offer, pre-employment physical examination/medical history check if requested.
  • May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
  • Lifecare Family Health will provide Hepatitis A/B vaccinations; candidate may decline vaccinations in writing or may provide record of vaccination from previous employer.
  • A pre-employment background investigation may be required.
  • Based in Canton but will travel between our three Stark County locations to work with various providers as needed.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Prolonged sitting or standing may be required. Those physical movements and the degree of mobility, manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination normally associated with nursing duties in a clinic office setting will be performed on a repetitive basis. This also includes bending, twisting, reaching, lifting, pulling, pushing, and walking. The ability to sustain moderate physical activity, handling of average-weight objects up to 25 pounds, and standing and/or walking for more than four (4) hours per day is expected. The ability to distinguish letters and symbols as well as the ability to utilize telephones, computer terminals, fax machines, and copiers is required. Working under stressful conditions as well as irregular hours may be required.

Pay: From $23.50 per hour
