Position Summary

What Will You Do?

Under the working title of Investigative Auditor, you will independently receive, track, assess, research, and respond to allegations submitted to the Bureau's Fraud, Waste, and Mismanagement Hotline that allege misuse of state resources, state agency noncompliance, or statewide concerns. You will participate in a collaborative assessment process to determine the investigatory steps used to respond to each allegation, including conducting interviews, performing document reviews, researching state and federal laws, analyzing data, developing recommendations to address the underlying cause of reported concerns, and write reports summarizing investigation findings. You will thoroughly document the investigation process and conclusion for each allegation made to the Hotline in accordance with Bureau policies and procedures. You will also collaborate with Bureau financial auditors and performance evaluators in the investigation process.

Salary Information

Qualifications

Who Are You?

As a qualified candidate:

  • You are able to maintain strict nonpartisanship.
  • You possess a bachelor's degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, the social sciences, public policy, or another related field.
  • You have at least 3 years of work experience in a professional setting requiring:

  • strong critical thinking skills for problem solving;

  • good analytical and research skills to assess compliance with laws, regulations, and procedures;
  • effectively manages multiple deliverables;
  • attention to detail and excellent documentation skills;
  • effective communication skills both orally and in writing; and
  • excellent interpersonal skills used to effectively navigate difficult conversations.
  • You have training or experience in accounting and auditing OR training in one or more research methods, such as:

  • data organization and quantitative analysis;

  • interviews;
  • literature reviews; and
  • legal analysis.

In addition, as a well-qualified candidate:

  • You have a graduate degree in accounting, business, economics, finance, the social sciences, public policy, or another relevant field;
  • You have experience with gathering information through interviews and other investigative techniques.
  • You have professional credentials as a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
  • You have knowledge and/or understanding of Wisconsin state government and its programs.
  • You have experience in the critical evaluation of compliance with legal requirements, including laws; federal regulations; and state rules, policies and procedures.
