HOPPE North America, a division of the HOPPE Group, will expand its Engineering team to support business growth through the design, development and introduction of new products. We specialize in precision hardware for doors and windows. We are seeking a highly skilled enthusiastic Mechanical Engineer who has experience and interest in electronics and automation. The ideal candidate will contribute to the design, analysis, and development of mechanical and electromechanical systems and components, as well as help spearhead initiatives in the business. The successful applicant will have a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, and experience with a variety of engineering tools and software.
Essential Duties:
- Develop detailed mechanical designs for new products including schematics and customer drawings in Solidworks and manage them in the PDM system
- Work with manufacturing, quality, procurement, customer service, partner suppliers, and customers as needed to develop products and solve problems.
- Demonstrated ability to create and manage project plans (schedule, product cost, meeting design inputs).
- Acts as a resource to mentor and teach less experienced engineers.
- Design and develop sample systems for customers
- Perform root cause and failure analyses. Apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to provide specified cost, quality, and performance in a safe and efficient manner.
- Develop prototypes and oversee testing procedures to validate mechanical and electrical performance.
- Evaluates the design's overall effectiveness, cost (including cost/benefit analysis), reliability (risk analysis), and manufacturability.
- Interface with the customers and sales to obtain necessary information in a timely manner
- Proactively communicate any concerns, problems, or technical decisions that impact the project to the customer and the business
- Review electrical drawings for proper wiring requirements, best layout and component usage
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a productive manner with customers, co-workers and management
- Occasional travel up to 10%
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- 3+ years of relevant work experience.
- Experience in systems engineering and new product design and development.
- Demonstrated attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Previous experience with Microsoft D365 or equivalent ERP system.
- Fundamental knowledge of electrical equipment at component and integrated system levels.
- Ability to perform detail-oriented work with a high degree of accuracy simultaneously on multiple projects.
- Design experience with a variety of materials (i.e. plastics, steel, aluminum) and basic knowledge of material specs and use.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
- Education in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
- 5+ years of relevant work experience.
- Strong understanding of electrical engineering practices and processes
- Experience with machine design, fabricated components, weldments, stampings, castings, plastic injection molded parts
- Experience in instrumentation and control systems
- Experience in programing software such as Visual Basic/Studio, SQL, other Microsoft applications, and SolidWorks.
- Experience in electrical testing procedures and protocols.
- Able to solve complex engineering problems utilizing 8D methodology.
