About the PositionJob Brief
Austin Wood Recycling is seeking an Accounting Manager to oversee day-to-day accounting operations and supervise a team of 3–5 accounting team members at our corporate headquarters in the Austin area (Hutto, TX).
This role supports the Controller in coordinating the accounting close, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring the integrity of core accounting processes. The Accounting Manager is a hands-on leader who values teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement within a manufacturing and logistics environment.
The Controller retains ultimate responsibility for financial statements and strategic accounting decisions; this role focuses on execution, coordination, and team leadership.
Key Responsibilities- Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable
- Oversee daily AP and AR activities to ensure timely and accurate processing
- Monitor aging reports and support cash collection efforts
- Ensure team members provide reliable information regarding expected cash flows
- Cash Flow Support
- Prepare weekly and monthly cash reporting schedules for Controller review
- Assist leadership with visibility into short-term cash requirements
- Inventory Accounting (Manufacturing Environment)
- Coordinate monthly inventory reconciliations
- Support accurate inventory valuation and reporting
- Fixed Assets
- Maintain fixed asset records, including additions, disposals, and depreciation
- Assist with annual fixed asset roll-forward schedules
- Tax & Compliance Support
- Coordinate the timely preparation and filing of applicable tax forms, including:
- Sales and use tax
- 1099 reporting
- Heavy highway use tax (Form 2290)
- Accounting Close
- Coordinate month-end close activities and timelines
- Review balance sheet reconciliations prepared by the accounting team
- Prepare and post standard journal entries
- Assist with improving close checklists and documentation
- Support accounting workflows related to fleet maintenance systems
- Financial Reporting Support
- Assist the Controller in preparing monthly financial statements and supporting schedules
- Ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established accounting policies
- Supervise and support a team of 3–5 accounting professionals
- Hold regular team meetings and one-on-one check-ins
- Provide coaching, feedback, and training to support professional development
- Assist with annual performance reviews and goal tracking
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and people-oriented team environment
- Minimum 5+ years of professional accounting experience required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
- Prior experience supervising or mentoring accounting staff preferred
- Experience in manufacturing, inventory accounting, or cost accounting is a plus
- Working knowledge of GAAP and month-end close processes
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines
- Ability to work onsite at the corporate headquarters
- Ability to sit, stand, and work at a computer for extended periods
- Experience with enterprise accounting and ERP systems is preferred. Experience with AWR's specific systems is helpful but not required; candidates with comparable systems are encouraged to apply.
AWR systems include:
- Infor Syteline (CloudSuite Industrial) – ERP / accounting
- AMCS Dossier – fleet maintenance
- Paycom – payroll and corporate card management
- Microsoft SharePoint – document management and collaboration
Comparable systems may include NetSuite, SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, Epicor, Sage, or similar ERP platforms.
