Financial Controller

Job Overview

SPI Automation, a division of JE Grote Company is seeking an experienced Financial Controller to oversee accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, payroll, and HR administration. This role is replacing our 20 year controller that is phasing into retirement by the end of 2026. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial records, strong internal controls, and compliance with GAAP while supporting company leadership with clear financial insight.

This is a hands-on role suited for a senior accounting professional who enjoys ownership, structure, and working closely with leadership in a growing industrial automation company.

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee all accounting functions and financial systems
• Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports
• Lead annual budgeting and financial forecasting
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations
• Oversee payroll, employee benefits, and related reporting
• Manage tax filings and coordinate with external CPA firms
• Maintain banking and financial institution relationships
• Oversee company insurance programs
• Oversee Human Resources administrative functions
• Train, mentor, and evaluate accounting, clerical, and HR staff
• Maintain strong internal controls and safeguard company assets

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
• 5+ years of accounting experience
• Strong understanding of GAAP
• Experience with accounting systems and financial software
• High level of integrity and attention to detail
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Experience

• Prior Controller or senior accounting role
• Experience in manufacturing, automation, engineering, or project-based environments
• Experience working with external CPAs and audits

Pay: $80, $105,000.00 per year
