General Purpose

Under general supervision, oversees and performs custodial work and cleaning of assigned County buildings and facilities; performs inspections of facilities to identify issues; monitors and evaluates work to provide training and guidance; and tracks, orders and maintains appropriate levels of inventory and cleaning purchases.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma/GED Certificate from an accredited institution and two years of custodial experience involving the cleaning and maintaining of interiors of buildings including one year of previous supervisory experience.

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Valid New Mexico driver's license or ability to obtain a valid New Mexico driver's license within 30 days of hire.
  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol screening.

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to maintain a valid New Mexico driver's license
  • Must pass a background check applicable to position.

This position is subject to bi-annual background checks in accordance with Sandoval County Detention Center Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Part 1/C108, Chapter: Personnel, Subject: Employment Process / Background Investigations, PROCEDURES, Post-Employment, 4.; and FPBDS A.9.6 (periodic).

Essential Job Functions
  • Trains Custodians in work standards; inspects completed work for compliance with standards; ensures use of appropriate protective equipment and various cleaning supplies and chemicals to clean, sanitize and deodorize facilities to include offices, meeting spaces, and restrooms; participates in performance feedback for Custodians.
  • Maintains inventories of supplies and equipment; monitors supply level and completes purchase requisitions as needed; identifies issues with supplies and/or equipment and reports to management.
  • Performs daily walk-throughs to identify items that need maintenance such as light bulb replacement, clogged drains, toilets, and other minor repairs.
  • Performs a wide variety of cleaning and general custodial services; empties trash and removes to outside trash containers; changes lining in trash containers as needed; within offices, dusts and clean desks, chairs, cabinets, and telephones; cleans window sills; washes windows on both the inside and outside; and mops tile floors within offices on a regular basis.
  • Cleans interior and exterior windows and glass entry ways on a multiple level facility.
  • Thoroughly cleans floors and other furnishings on a regular basis; cleans restrooms including emptying of trash, sweeps floor, cleans wash basins and urinals in men's restroom, toilets, walls on bathroom stalls, mirrors and wet mops the floor; replaces soap and paper product supplies in restrooms and sanitizes restroom floors; sweeps outside and inside entry areas as directed; dust and wet mops the hallways; light fixtures, and ceiling fans as needed.
  • Sweeps and maintains sidewalk areas around facilities and building entrances to keep free of litter and debris.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
