Job Overview
We are seeking a dynamic and compassionate Optometric Technician to join our eye care team In this energetic role, you will be the first point of contact for patients, providing exceptional care and support throughout their visit. Your expertise will help ensure smooth clinic operations, accurate patient data collection, and a positive experience for everyone who walks through our doors.

Responsibilities

  • The Optometry Technician triages patient phone calls or requests; ensures exam rooms are stocked with adequate supplies; provides advanced patient education for eye health and vision conditions and post-operative instructions; accurately measures, compares and evaluates pupillary responses; administers eye drops to dilate pupils; performs basic color vision screening; performs visual field testing using Amsler grid or automated equipment; performs basic imaging testing such as corneal topography and external photography; performs basic ocular testing such as pachymetry, tear production with test strips, glare testing, stereo acuity, contrast sensitivity, potential acuity meter, measuring spectacles using both automated and manual lensometry and transposing cylinders; triages and manages eyeglasses issues; and performs autorefactor to determine spectacle prescription

Experience

  • Prior experience in hospital settings is highly preferred.
  • Federal Résumé tips: Include: contact information; descriptions of jobs held, including the name and address of employer, job title, description of duties, beginning and ending date (month/year) of employment, average hours worked per week, phone number, education, including name and location of college, dates attended, and type and date of any degree earned and other relevant information such as possession of licenses, certificates, etc. Descriptions of duties must be sufficiently detailed to document the level of experience.
  • Minimum Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • English Language Proficiency. NAs must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j.

Minimum Requirements. One year of experience as a health technician or assistant in the health care field demonstrating the applicant's ability to perform the work or by demonstrating a basic understanding of work in the health care field; OR Education. Successful completion of two academic years above high school with a minimum of 12 semester hours related to health technician/assistant or health technician (optometry)/assistant or associate degree, or completion of an independent study course in an optometry related technician or assistant field; OR Experience/Education Combination. Equivalent combinations of experience and education are qualifying. Examples are listed below: (a) Six months of experience comparable to the next lower level which demonstrates the knowledge of optometry assistant theory and practices and general understanding of the health technician/assistant duties and one year above high school with a minimum of six semester hours of health technician/assistant or health technician (optometry)/assistant related courses. 3 (b) Successful completion of a course for health care technicians or assistants, hospital corpsmen, medical service specialists, or hospital training in a program given by the U.S. Armed Forces, the U.S. Maritime Service, or the U.S. Public Health Service, may be substituted on a month-for-month basis.

  • Pay rates offered may be higher than the minimum for candidates with additional education, experience and other best-qualifying factors.

Pay: $ $31.12 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
