About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Machine Learning Engineer to join our AEC Solutions team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the development and strategic direction of Autodesk's generative AI capabilities within the AEC domain. Your expertise will drive the design of intelligent data processing systems and scalable ML pipelines that transform unstructured inputs such as text, images, and geometric data into structured, actionable insights. As a key member of the team, you will collaborate with AI researchers, software architects, data engineers, and experience designers to create foundation models and generative AI tools that augment design and engineering workflows. This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape the future of digital construction and design by leveraging cutting-edge AI advancements to deliver innovative solutions for our customers. You will report to the ML Development Manager for the Generative AI team and work in a hybrid or remote setting, primarily in Canada or the United States, with a preference for candidates on the East Coast.
Qualifications
- A Master's degree or higher in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 10+ years of professional experience in machine learning, data science, AI, or related disciplines, with demonstrated technical leadership and hands-on implementation skills.
- Deep understanding of data modeling, system architecture, and processing techniques, including 2D/3D geometric data representations.
- Expertise in deep learning architectures such as Transformers, CNNs, GANs, and familiarity with modern ML frameworks like PyTorch, Lightning, and Ray.
- Experience working with Large Language Models (LLMs), Vision-Language Models (VLMs), embedding models, vector databases, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) systems in production environments.
- Proficiency with AWS cloud services, including SageMaker Studio, for scalable data processing and model development.
- Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals, distributed computing, and algorithmic efficiency.
- Proven ability to translate theoretical research into practical, scalable solutions and prototypes.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to document processes, present findings, and influence cross-functional teams.
Other Qualifications
- Background or experience in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction industries is highly desirable.
- Extensive experience in system design for data preparation, hyperparameter tuning, acceleration techniques, and optimization methods.
- Hands-on experience with parallel and distributed computing platforms such as Spark, Ray, or similar systems for large-scale data processing and training.
- Knowledge of responsible AI principles, including bias mitigation, explainability, and ethical AI practices.
