Ability to obtain and maintain CBP Clearance (DHS/CBP Public Trust or BI)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced
Senior Java Developer
with strong modern Java engineering skills to support a mission-critical program within the
Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/Customs and Border Protection (CBP)
environment. The candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and able to obtain CBP clearance. This position requires onsite presence in the DC Metro area.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop scalable, secure applications using
  Java 17/21
  and modern frameworks.
• Build and optimize
  Spring Boot microservices
  and RESTful APIs.
• Implement cloud-ready solutions using
  Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
  .
• Work with DevOps, architects, and product teams in an Agile environment.
• Troubleshoot complex technical issues, enhance performance, and ensure security compliance.
• Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and modernization efforts.

Required Qualifications

• U.S. Citizenship (Mandatory – CBP requirement)
• Local to DC Metro area
  and able to work onsite 3 days per week
• Must be able to
  obtain and maintain CBP clearance
  (background investigation)
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
• 7+ years of hands-on enterprise Java development experience
• Strong skills in:
• Java 17/21
  , modern language features, JVM tuning
• Spring Boot 3.x, Spring Framework 6.x
• Microservices architecture
  and
  REST API development
• AWS or other cloud platforms
• Docker, Kubernetes (EKS/AKS)
• CI/CD using
  Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI
• Kafka
  or similar event streaming technologies
• SQL/NoSQL databases
  (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MongoDB)
• Solid understanding of security protocols including
  OAuth2, JWT, OIDC
• Experience with automated testing tools (
  JUnit 5, Mockito, Testcontainers
  )

Preferred Skills

• Prior DHS/CBP or federal agency experience
• Knowledge of
  Reactive Programming (WebFlux)
• Experience with
  Serverless (AWS Lambda)
• Observability tools:
  OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana
• Understanding of
  Domain-Driven Design (DDD)
  and distributed system patterns
