Duties
- Primary role is in the ditch but may help prepare job sites by digging trenches using equipment like backhoes and excavators, and conduct shoring operations as needed.
- Lay out pipe routes, cut pipes to the correct lengths, and place them in trenches.
- Use laser beam aligners, grade rods, and transit levels to ensure pipes are set to the correct line and grade, often coordinating with supervisors.
- Connect pipes and seal joints using appropriate materials such as cement, glue, or welding equipment to prevent leaks.
- Construct and repair storm drain system components, including manholes and catch basins, sometimes involving masonry work.
- Operate various heavy machinery like excavators, backhoes, and loaders, as well as hand and power tools.
- Follow safety procedures, monitor for overhead utilities, and set up traffic control devices (cones, signs) according to safety standards.
- Test newly installed pipes to ensure proper installation and backfill the trenches with earth or other materials once the pipes are in place.
- Prepare reports on materials, equipment utilization, and work completed.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and site plans.
- Proficiency in using survey instruments like lasers and levels.
- Physical strength and stamina to perform heavy lifting (often 50+ pounds) and strenuous physical labor in various weather conditions.
- Manual dexterity and multi-limb coordination.
- Basic math skills for measurements and calculations.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Experience with heavy equipment operation is often preferred or required.

Pay: $ $24.00 per hour
