This approach trains students to use the Socratic Method and inquiry approach to learning while leveraging their unique skills and talents in an equitable and democratic manner to create a positive culture where all students can find success.

Position Goals:

School nurses facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with actual and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning. Effectively manage Covid testing and contact tracing.

Position Responsibilities: The responsibilities herein are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by the employee in this position. They are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills required of a person in this position.

• Follow the state guidelines for nursing to ensure the health and wellness of students and staff.
• Conduct daily nursing procedures including but not limited to dispensing of medications and data entry of office visits.
• Communicate with parents, physicians, staff and community as necessary to ensure student and staff wellness.
• Maintain students with medical needs requiring nursing support on weekly community outings and field trips.
• Other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in nursing and State of Delaware DOE License and Certification Requirements for School Nurse
• Current RN license
• Hold and maintain valid CPR certification and use of AED
• Successful experience with children and youth preferred
• Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of students, staff, parents, and community members in an urban setting in a professional manner

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience as a school nurse
• Knowledge of school nursing requirements and pediatrics
• Ability to work with students in kindergarten through grade 12
• Must be able to stand and work continuously for a minimum of 4 hours per workday
• Minimum lifting requirements of 50 pounds.
• Must be able to use arms and hands without restrictions to accommodate the physical, mobility, and ambulatory needs of students

Standard Requirements:

• Favorable Criminal Background Check and Child Abuse Registry Check for the candidate who is offered employment
• Tuberculin Test
• Mandatory Direct Deposit of paycheck
