Why does the job exist?
This position will manage the daily Human Resources operations for the NM Corrections Department. The incumbent will provide advice and guidance to management and Human Resource staff in the areas of human resources in order to remain in compliance with rules, regulations, policies, procedures, state and federal laws in order to reduce the Department's legal liability.
How does it get done?
- Plans, leads, directs, develops, and coordinates the policies of the HR division ensuring legal compliance and implementation of the agencies mission and talent strategy.
- Proactively supports the needs of all HR managers and employees, developing and implementing HR best practices and processes.
- Provides guidance and support regarding employee performance, evaluations, performance development plans, and misconduct.
- As a member of the senior leadership team participates in high-level decisions, strategic direction, strategic planning, overall department structure, and other critical department-wide decisions.

Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in any related field and nine (9) years of experience in training, staff development, designing courses, producing instructional aides/materials, human resource operations, recruitment, selection, payroll, compensation, and benefits administration and/or occupational analysis. Three (3) years of supervisory experience as it pertains to the essential duties and responsibilities of this classification. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling thirteen (13) years, to include three (3) years of supervisory experience, may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License. Employment is subject to a pre-employment background investigation and is conditional pending results. Must be willing to accept a change in geographic assignment.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an adult prison environment, which includes daily contact with inmates. May be required to work odd hours, overtime, holidays, and weekends.
