Ebenezer's Baptist Church Custodian Job Description

Position Overview

• Ebenezer's Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment throughout the church facilities. This role supports the mission of the church by ensuring that the buildings and grounds are well cared for, creating a space where worship, fellowship, and ministry can thrive. This position reports to the Facilities Manager.

Key Responsibilities

• Cleaning and maintenance: Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and sanitize all areas including narthex, sanctuary, classrooms, offices, restrooms, conference rooms, and fellowship hall.
• Laundry: Clean soiled tablecloths after each event.
• Setup and breakdown: Arrange chairs tables and supplies for worship services, meetings, and special events.
• Groundskeeping: Maintain exterior areas including sidewalks, parking lots, and landscaping as needed.
• Safety and security: Ensure doors and windows are locked after events and follow safety protocols.
• Inventory management: Track cleaning supplies and request replenishments when necessary.
• Collaboration: Work with church staff, volunteers, customers, and ministry leaders to support events and facility needs.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED
• Experience: 3-5 years of prior custodial or maintenance experience preferred.
• Skills: Ability to use cleaning equipment and basic tools; attention to detail
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods, lift and move over 50 pounds.
• Knowledge of MSDS or Safety Data Sheets, different cleaning products, and tools
• Time-management, multitasking abilities and Organization skills.
• Good verbal communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision.
• Dependable, trustworthy, and respectful of the church's mission and values.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

Full-Time position: Days and hours of work are Monday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm except during special programs and events.

Part-Time position: Days and hours of work are Tuesday and Thursday from 5:00 pm to 9 pm, Saturday and Sunday from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm except during special programs and events.
