Position Overview:
Siemens Mobility Rail Division seeks an experienced Mechanical/Production Engineer for a full-time, on-site position in Sacramento, CA. The primary responsibility is to provide engineering support for the fabrication and assembly of rail carshells and bogies in a fast-paced production environment. The role involves daily collaboration with shop personnel, Quality Assurance, and customer inspectors, ensuring design specifications are met on the factory floor while maintaining top safety and quality standards in the rail industry.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Provide engineering-based solutions/guidance on production related issues, utilizing industry standards, approved processes, root cause analysis, and best engineering practices.
  • Accurately discern when proposed changes require structural recalculations to be performed and/or when design engineering input is required.
  • Perform engineering evaluations on requests for deviation and provide either justification for use or repair procedures when applicable.
  • Ensure production engineering assistance is provided in a timely manner so that the production schedule is impacted as little as possible. Production engineering response time is typically one business day.

To thrive in this role, you have:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering degree or similar degree with 5 + years' experience preferred.
  • Experience designing/manufacturing mechanical systems; vehicle design/manufacturing (rail, aerospace, or automotive) preferred
  • Fundamental knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Practical machining and welding experience
  • Knowledge of welded steel/stainless steel structures, design, and inspection methods (AWS D1.1 and EN 15085 preferred)
  • Interpreting engineering level drawings, bill of materials (BOM), and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)

  • Proficient in Creo CAD or similar 3D modeling software, with fundamental knowledge of structural FEA (Finite Element Analysis).
  • Collaborate effectively with technical experts, suppliers, customers, and factory workers to determine optimal solutions and communicate efficiently both internally and externally.
  • Demonstrates initiative in process improvement to better serve internal and external customers.
  • Experienced in creating repair procedures and working in manufacturing environments.
  • Capable of comprehending and constructively discussing analysis details related to welded structures, including static and fatigue loads, while providing production-focused input during issue resolution.

Candidates should be willing to work in non-climate-controlled environments and inclement weather if required or if applicable.

The base salary range for this position in Sacramento, CA, is $92, $124,338.00.
The salary may be higher or lower depending on the budget and the candidate's experience, knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
