Responsibilities
Lead the design of the auxiliary power supply network (up to 11 kV) on all projects undertaken and ensure that the system efficiently meets the project needs.
Understand the customer’s requirements, regulatory constraints and standards and ensure they are fully considered by all stakeholders.
Develop a provisional load list and auxiliary power system architecture that meets the project needs.
Model the proposed system on a suitable software platform such as Amtech Prodesign or Caneco BT to verify correct system performance, and for equipment sizing and specification.
Ensure that the network is correctly protected and coordinated.
Present engineering options to internal stakeholders and customers to gain agreement and progress to the next design stage.
Create the necessary documents and reports to articulate the proposed design and its benefits to the customer.
Develop equipment procurement specifications to engage the supply chain and obtain vendor offers for the required equipment; review offers with the sourcing team to determine the best technical solution.
Develop the proposal into a practical solution and supervise the creation of design and installation integration drawings and other documents.
Work with mechanical, electrical and civil designers to integrate the auxiliary system design into the overall solution, ensuring necessary provisions and interfaces are managed.
Engage with the customer, as required, to articulate the proposed design and answer questions or queries that may arise.
Work with the installation and commissioning team to develop a testing regime that ensures the system meets its functional and legislative obligations.

LV/MV AC distribution equipment.
LV/MV cabling.
DC battery systems.
Diesel generators.
UPS.
Earthing and bonding practices in substations.
DNO supply coordination and connection works design.
Competent user of an LV/MV network modelling software such as Amtech ProDesign, Caneco BT, or similar.
Knowledge of Digsilent PowerFactory / ETAP for MV/LV network studies such as harmonics, arc flash is beneficial.
Desired Characteristics
Strong understanding of auxiliary system networks and the equipment available to realise the design.
Working knowledge of related standards and documents such as BS7671, TNO/DNO, ENA standards to understand design constraints.
Good understanding of MV/LV equipment standards and customer specifications.
