Position Overview

Bright Shadows Telepsychiatry Services is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to join our multidisciplinary team. This role is ideal for someone with lived experience in mental health and/or substance use recovery who is passionate about supporting others through encouragement, advocacy, and connection to resources.

This position is offered as a W2 role with the option to work hybrid or fully remote, depending on location and program needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide peer support services to individuals receiving behavioral health treatment
• Use lived experience to offer encouragement, hope, and recovery-oriented support
• Assist clients with goal setting, self-advocacy, and skill-building
• Support client engagement with treatment, appointments, and community resources
• Document services accurately and timely in the electronic health record
• Collaborate with clinical providers, care coordinators, and administrative staff
• Participate in team meetings, trainings, and supervision
• Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and professional standards

Qualifications

Required:

• Peer Support Specialist certification (NC or VA) or eligibility to obtain certification
• Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote or hybrid environment
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Comfortable using technology, telehealth platforms, and electronic documentation
• Must reside in or near Elizabeth City, NC or Hampton, VA

Preferred:

• Prior experience in behavioral health or peer support services
• Experience working in telehealth or virtual support settings
• Knowledge of local community resources in NC or VA

Schedule & Work Environment

• Flexible scheduling available

• Some evening or weekend availability may be preferred
