Position Overview
Bright Shadows Telepsychiatry Services is seeking a Peer Support Specialist to join our multidisciplinary team. This role is ideal for someone with lived experience in mental health and/or substance use recovery who is passionate about supporting others through encouragement, advocacy, and connection to resources.
This position is offered as a W2 role with the option to work hybrid or fully remote, depending on location and program needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide peer support services to individuals receiving behavioral health treatment
- Use lived experience to offer encouragement, hope, and recovery-oriented support
- Assist clients with goal setting, self-advocacy, and skill-building
- Support client engagement with treatment, appointments, and community resources
- Document services accurately and timely in the electronic health record
- Collaborate with clinical providers, care coordinators, and administrative staff
- Participate in team meetings, trainings, and supervision
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and professional standards
Qualifications
Required:
- Peer Support Specialist certification (NC or VA) or eligibility to obtain certification
- Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use recovery
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote or hybrid environment
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Comfortable using technology, telehealth platforms, and electronic documentation
- Must reside in or near Elizabeth City, NC or Hampton, VA
Preferred:
- Prior experience in behavioral health or peer support services
- Experience working in telehealth or virtual support settings
- Knowledge of local community resources in NC or VA
Schedule & Work Environment
- Flexible scheduling available
- Hybrid or fully remote options based on role and location
- Some evening or weekend availability may be preferred
