JOB DESCRIPTION: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Volunteers in Medicine – San Diego, Inc (VIM) is a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit free clinic that began in 2003 to provide medical care for the uninsured.
Job Summary: The Executive Director of this not-for-profit health clinic, is responsible for leading and overseeing all aspects of the organization's operations, strategic planning, and achieving financial and operating objectives. The position's primary goal is to ensure the delivery of high-quality healthcare services to underserved communities and individuals without access to affordable medical care. The Executive Director works closely with the board chair, stakeholders, and medical professionals to shape the organization's vision, drive growth, and foster a culture of compassion, excellence, and community impact.
ED will have demonstrated the ability to lead and implement a fundraising program that will increase financial support for the programs and services of the clinic. He/she will be responsible for planning and directing the fundraising program, including donor development, grant writing and social media outreach. ED will take a lead role in fundraising, strategic planning, government relations and institutional advancement.
Responsibilities:
● Collaborate with the board of directors to establish long-term strategic goals and objectives. Provide direction and leadership to drive achievement of VIM's mission, strategic and annual objectives.
● Drive new income opportunities by engaging and recruiting existing and new doners, volunteers and community members. Proven ability to secure new business (sponsors, donors, grants) and assure financial success.
● Experience in recruiting, motivating, managing, and addressing the performance of professional staff and handling personnel matters.
● Ensure responsible financial management, including budgeting, financial reporting, and compliance.
● Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficient and effective delivery of medical services.
● Create a dynamic office culture that attracts, retains, and motivates a diverse team of top- quality employees and volunteers.
● Community Engagement and Partnerships: o Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, healthcare providers, and government agencies. o Represent the organization at relevant events, conferences, and forums to raise awareness and advocate for healthcare access.
o Collaborate with key stakeholders to identify community needs and develop programs accordingly. Develop and implement public relations strategies to enhance the organization's reputation and brand.
Qualifications:
● Proven leadership experience at an executive level, preferably in the healthcare or nonprofit sector with the ability to think strategically and creatively.
● Excellent decision-making abilities, with a track record of translating vision into action.
● Demonstrated success in fundraising, donor stewardship, and grant writing.
● Politically astute with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders, build consensus and motivate groups and individuals.
● A diplomatic, decisive leader who can address difficult issues and who has a record of demonstrating strong negotiating skills.
● Forward thinking, energetic and optimistic leadership style with the ability to lead by example, and able to motivate, communicate, and advocate.
● Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide VIM with a polished, credible spokesperson both internally and externally.
● Sound ethical character, with unquestioned commitment to VIM's mission
SALARY: Part Time Position, 30 hours per week; commensurate with experience.
EXPERIENCE: 5-7 years in a non-profit management position
EDUCATION: Master's degree preferred, Bachelor degree required with non-profit or commercial corporate management experience
