Position Summary

The Forklift Operator supports production, warehousing, and shipping by safely moving materials and finished goods throughout the facility. This role performs dock operations, line staging, inventory movements, and documentation in compliance with GMP, SQF, HACCP, and OSHA standards.

Key Responsibilities

Safe Equipment Operation

  • Operate      sit-down/stand-up forklifts, reach trucks, and electric pallet jacks in      accordance with OSHA and site SOPs.
  • Complete      and log daily pre-shift inspections; remove unsafe equipment from service      and report issues immediately.
  • Maintain      pedestrian-first practices, speed limits, horn use at intersections, and      proper load handling (balance, height, visibility).

Receiving & Put-Away

  • Unload      inbound trailers; verify counts, lot codes, and condition against BOL/PO.
  • Apply/verify      pallet IDs and barcodes; perform WMS/ERP receiving and put-away to      designated locations (FIFO/FEFO).
  • Escalate      damage, temperature excursions, or nonconforming materials to      Quality/Procurement.

Production Support

  • Stage raw      materials (cans, ends, trays, film, corrugate, ingredients) to lines per      pick lists and schedule.
  • Perform      timely line pulls and returns; maintain accurate real-time inventory      transactions with RF scanners.
  • Protect      primary packaging from dents, abrasion, or contamination; follow allergen      and chemical segregation rules.

Shipping & Finished Goods

  • Build,      wrap, and label pallets; verify case counts, lot/date codes, and pallet      configuration.
  • Load      outbound trailers to BOL/ASN; ensure weight distribution, securement, and      dock safety (chocks, plates, restraints).
  • Assist      with carrier check-in/out and documentation accuracy.

Inventory & Housekeeping

  • Perform      cycle counts, location audits, and investigate variances; maintain 5S      standards in racks, docks, and staging areas.
  • Keep      aisles, docks, and emergency exits clear; promptly manage spills and      debris following SDS and PPE requirements.

Compliance & Continuous Improvement

  • Follow      GMPs, HACCP pre-reqs, and site sanitation expectations; maintain      audit-ready logs and areas.
  • Participate      in Kaizen/5S events and suggest improvements to safety, flow, and      accuracy.

Qualifications

Required

  • 1+ year      recent forklift experience in manufacturing, beverage/food, distribution,      or warehousing.
  • Proficiency      with RF scanners and basic WMS/ERP transactions (receive, move, pick,      ship).
  • Ability to      read pick lists, BOLs, POs, and lot codes; basic math for counts and      palletization.
  • Reliable      attendance; ability to work shifts, weekends, and overtime as needed.
  • Physical      ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs regularly (75 lbs occasionally);      prolonged standing/walking.

Preferred

  • Current      Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) certification (or ability to obtain on      hire).
  • Experience      with clamp attachments, reach trucks, and high-bay racking.
  • Beverage/food      GMP experience; knowledge of FIFO/FEFO and lot-trace requirements.
  • Basic      computer skills (email, WMS/ERP data entry, labeling software).

Tools & Equipment

Sit-down/stand-up forklifts, reach trucks, electric pallet jacks, RF scanners, stretch wrappers, banding/strapping tools, dock levelers/restraints, battery/LP systems, and standard warehouse tools.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • Warehouse,      production, and dock areas; exposure to variable temperatures      (ambient/cold storage), noise, and moving equipment.
  • Frequent      climbing, bending, and handling of shrink wrap, pallets, and packaging      materials.
  • Required      PPE per area (safety shoes, eye/ear protection, hi-vis, gloves, etc.).
