Afterschool Van Drivers
Part Time
Monday- Friday 1:30pm - 7:00 pm additional midday hours may be required when child(ren) have half day school attendance and on days when child(ren) are out of school.
SUMMARY:
As a Van Driver, you will transport child(ren) from school to the Afterschool Program at the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center in East St. Louis. When daily afterschool programming ends, drivers will transport each child safely to their homes. We offer door-to-door service for all youth that live within the school district. You will also assist in the afterschool program between pick-up and drop-off. The hours of this position may vary depending on daily program attendance and adjustments made to routes.
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operate an organization vehicle to transport students in a safe and courteous manner while adhering to traffic laws.
- Perform daily vehicle checks, promptly reporting any maintenance issues.
- Keep an accurate log of mileage, fuel usage and other information, submit log daily.
- Follow processes for leading and loading the vans at various locations.
- Maintaining a clean, well-maintained van inside and out.
- Interact with staff, parents, and the community in general, in an effective and professional manner.
- Reasonable knowledge of federal, state, and Foundation rules, regulations, and policies related to the position.
- Demonstrate ability to deal with privacy, sensitive and important issues in a tactful and professional manner.
- Provide students with constructive behavioral and disciplinary direction for safety, order, and respect for the rights and belongings of others.
- Assist in the day-to day operations of the afterschool program during program hours. Assisting with youth and ensuring their overall safety.

- Assist with snacks and meal distribution.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
- High School diploma/GED required
- 3 years prior experience working with children in either a paid or volunteer capacity
- Ability to pass Criminal background check, motor vehicle check and drug test.
- Have a valid driver's license, be insurable and have a clean driving record.
- Communication skills - good written and oral communication skills and the ability to relate to the public and our youth.
- Decision making skills - good judgment, systemic thinking, problem solving, performance organization and time management.
- Planning skills - monitoring, organizational planning, ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth and to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
- Relationship skills, strong customer service, strict confidentiality, ability to build relationships, use meaningful measurements to satisfy customer needs and be a positive team player.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, and carrying.
- Requires occasional sitting and/or typing using a computer with a mouse.
· Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust.
· The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Must have visual and auditory ability to respond to critical incidents and the physical ability to respond swiftly in an emergency situation.
- Must be able to coordinate a variety of large and small tasks simultaneously and handle tension and stress in a positive manner.
- Flexible schedule and willing to cover shifts due to call-offs when possible.
