JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the sampling, inspecting and testing of all produced materials (concrete, aggregate, sand, etc.) and compare against specifications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Ability to interact with customers in a professional manner.
  • Obtain samples and perform necessary tests on various concrete and aggregate products following ASTM and ODOT standards.
  • Preparing samples of products for customers and testing laboratories and may deliver to assure safe arrival.
  • Records and maintains test data and other required information. This includes both written records and data input into a personal computer.
  • Performs necessary housekeeping functions in laboratory area.
  • Performs daily maintenance on lab and test equipment.
  • Always work safely and take action to prevent any and all unsafe actions, processes, and behaviors.
  • Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed

Concrete Testing Emphasis

  • Assist mixer drivers in determining quality and consistency of concrete.
  • Conduct compressive and flexural strength testing on concrete specimens.
  • Have advanced knowledge of the effects and testing of moisture control in concrete mixtures.
  • Have an advanced understanding of the types, applications and dosages of concrete admixtures.
  • Gain an understanding of laboratory concrete testing and the ability to assist in performance laboratory tests.

Aggregate Testing Emphasis

  • Perform physical properties testing on coarse and fine aggregates according to ASTM and/or ODOT Specifications.
  • Ability to train lab, plant and quarry personnel on proper sampling and testing practices.
  • Ability to analyze and report basic trends in test data.
  • Regular, reliable attendance at the worksite or assigned work location.
  • Other duties and responsibilities related to the nature of the job may be assigned on a temporary or permanent basis as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience/education/Skill

  • ACI Concrete Field-Testing Technician – Grade I Certification preffered.
  • Willing to obtain ODOT Aggregate Sampling Certification (Aggregate Testing Emphasis)
  • Ability to read, write and figure mathematical calculations
  • Good observation skills.
  • Self-motivated, organized and has the ability to work without direct supervision
  • Excellent verbal, written and comprehension communication skills.
  • Must work well with others in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a positive attitude that fosters effective relationships.
  • Must be able to quickly understand and adhere to safety requirements of this position.
  • Ability to work overtime, nights and weekends as required.
  • Ability to work near, around or on light or heavy equipment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Lift objects repeatedly of various dimensions and up to 100lbs. of weight
  • Ability to repeatedly climb stairs and climb ladders
  • Ability to repeatedly balance, bend from the trunk, crawl, kneel, push and pull objects
  • Ability to tolerate working in all environmental temperatures and weather conditions
  • Ability to repeatedly reach, squat and tolerate prolonged standing / walking / sitting
  • Ability to repeatedly walk on uneven surfaces
