Starting placement will generally not exceed 15% of the advertised initial salary range and is based on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.The current schedule for this position is: Mondays: 12:15 p.m. – 9:15 p.m.Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays: 9:15 a.m. - 6:15 p.m.Our library is open 7 days a week and staff may need to work weekends to host programs, cover shifts, and rotate Person-in-Charge duties.GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIESAre you energized by creating meaningful experiences for children, teens, and families? This position is ideal for someone who thrives on creativity, community connection, and public service.Information Professionals in this role focus on planning and delivering engaging programs and outreach for children and teens, both in the library and throughout the community. You'll work directly with children, parents, and caregivers—providing information services, recommending materials, and connecting families with resources that reflect community needs and interests. Staying current with educational trends and societal shifts is essential to keeping programs relevant and impactful.This is a hands-on, service-driven role. You'll provide basic computer assistance and troubleshooting, report facilities and technology issues, contribute to collection maintenance, and assist with staffing coverage across locations. Depending on assignment, you may supervise staff and serve as Person in Charge, overseeing daily operations when needed.As a frontline leader, you'll help ensure the Library Code of Conduct is followed, addressing challenges professionally and with empathy. Information Professionals are expected to apply library policies consistently while delivering excellent customer service and upholding the mission and values of the library system.ESSENTIAL DUTIESSupervision and Staff Development Supervises one or more full-time equivalent employees. Communicates clearly and consistently with staff, sharing information in a timely manner and providing feedback, recognition, and corrective guidance with professionalism and tact. Provides ongoing training and ensures compliance with County and Library policies and procedures. Supports staff in resolving work-related issues to maintain high-quality public service and positive public relations. Fosters an environment where staff are empowered to make decisions within their areas of responsibility and ensures required and ongoing training is maintained.Information and Technology Services Provides professional information and reference services to library users in person, by phone, and online. Uses effective interview techniques to assess information needs and connect users with appropriate resources, considering reading level, technology skills, scope of inquiry, and time constraints. Places holds and interlibrary loan requests. Oversees public computer use, printers, and related equipment; assists patrons with basic troubleshooting and provides instruction in the use of electronic, print, and other library resources. Provides service coverage at other desks or locations as needed.Person in Charge and Operational Support Serves as Person in Charge when assigned and provides backup support for other supervisors. Resolves patron concerns and complaints and collaborates with library administration on complex issues. Responds to emergencies and security incidents, including medical situations, disruptive behavior, theft, and facility alarms, coordinating with law enforcement and emergency services when necessary. Opens and secures the building and reports facility or technology issues to the appropriate departments. Shares responsibility for daily department or branch operations, including staff scheduling adjustments, meeting participation, follow-up communication, and continuity of service. Completes special projects and other duties as assigned.Collection Maintenance and Marketing Participates in routine collection maintenance based on assignment and operational needs. Plans and implements displays and other promotional strategies to highlight library collections. Develops informational tools and content aligned with user needs, current trends, and community interests.Professional Development Maintains awareness of emerging technologies and trends in librarianship. Learns or trains on at least two new applications, devices, programs, or services annually and shares knowledge with supervisors and colleagues through formal or informal training methods.OTHER IMPORTANT OR MARGINAL DUTIESCompletes special projects and other tasks as assigned.DIFFICULTYIndependent decision making is essential. Employee in this position must be aware of the library users' needs and abilities. Matching appropriate information to the needs of the user requires creativity based on knowledge of all library resources and knowledge of resources available outside of the library as well. Work involves program planning, marketing and presenting which requires imagination, flexibility, persistence, creativity and the ability to resolve problems in front of an audience. EQUIPMENT AND TOOLS USEDPersonal computers, word processing software, spreadsheet software, database software, SIRSI Library Management System, and the Internet are among the equipment and tools used in this position.WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDSWork is performed mainly indoors. Desk work, standing, walking, concentration, and computer work are some of the physical and mental demands of the position.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIESKnowledge of general library principles and philosophy; library services, i.e. children's, adult, reference, media, technology, outreach; PCs and of the on-line catalog , including borrower services, circulation services, and bibliographic services; LeRoy Collins Leon County Public Library policies and procedures; collection development and management; supervisory techniques; organizing and directing the work of others; motivating staff to provide excellent customer service; communicating courteously, efficiently and effectively over the phone and in person with a diverse population; resolve problems as it relates to public or staff; develop and implement programs; communicate clearly orally and in writing. Cataloging experience preferred. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMasters degree in Library Science or Information Studies from an ALA-accredited graduate program OR a Bachelor's degree AND proof of attaining a Master's degree, within 4 months, in Library Science or Information Studies from an ALA-accredited university. Necessary Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Class "E" State of Florida Driver's License with a favorable driving record. Must be able to work days, evenings, and weekends. All Leon County employees (regular full-time and part-time, OPS, and PRN) are required to work before, during and after a Declared Local State of Emergency (DLSOE). Participation is considered a condition of employment.Selection Guidelines: Formal application, rating of education and experience; oral interview and reference check; and drug testing.
