Position Overview:
The Transit Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of all passengers on their vehicle. The bus driver reports to the Transit Director.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Drives with the safety of passengers as the priority
- Operates all types of vehicles used to transport occupants
- Assists passengers using mobility devices
- Secures mobility devices with four-point wheelchair securement systems
- Placing retractors into floor anchorage locations
- Position mobility device in proper location
- Secure the device using retractors
- Webbing loops as needed
- Properly secures Occupant Securement system
- Securing lap and shoulder belts to connection points on the retractors
- Positioning lap and shoulder belts to keep passenger safe in their mobility device
- Demonstrates knowledge of local, state, and federal rules, regulations, ordinances, and laws relating to the operation of a passenger transportation vehicle (bus/van/sedan/etc.)
- Remains alert and exercises good judgement concerning emergency situations, abnormal driving conditions, and disabled vehicles
- Conducts a thorough pre-trip inspection of the bus prior to every trip
- Fills fuel tank as necessary- not to leave it under a half tank of fuel
- Follows established routs and designated bus stops
- Operates the bus on approved time schedule
- Cleans interior daily upon end of shift
- Drives defensively under varying traffic conditions and inclement weather
- Reports all accidents and damages immediately to the Transit Director and/or the Transit Director's designated representative
- Reports passenger injuries immediately to the Transit Director and/or the Transit Director's designated representative
- Informs Transit Director and/or the Transit Director's designated representative of any unusual incidents or circumstances during their daily routine
- Reports defective equipment to Mechanics or Operations Assistant using appropriate forms
- Exhibits a positive image as a loyal representative of Charlevoix County Transit
- Attends all scheduled training sessions
- Other duties as assigned by the Transit Director and/or the Transit Director's designated representative
Mandatory Requirements:
- High school or equivalent
- Minimum of five years driving experience
- Possession of a chauffer's license or CDL with passenger endorsement with Class "B" and "P" endorsements
- Willing to meet all bus driver certifications and licensing requirements (training provided)
- Must comply with Federal DOT drug and alcohol testing requirements
- Ability to pass a background check
- Ability to meet state/local physical exam requirements

Job Location/Working Conditions:
Primarily located on passenger transportation vehicle. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Occasional bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, and lifting required. Must be able to lift a maximum of fifty pounds.
