Position Overview
The Cost Accounting Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of cost accounting, inventory analysis, and standard cost maintenance for Unified Door & Hardware Group. This role ensures financial accuracy through consistent application of cost controls, variance analysis, and collaboration with operations and finance teams.
This position requires a strong technical background in cost accounting, analytical thinking, and the ability to communicate financial insights effectively across business functions. The ideal candidate will drive process improvements, strengthen internal controls, and support strategic financial planning and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Cost Accounting and Financial Management
- Manage all aspects of cost accounting, including standard cost development, product costing, and cost roll processes.
- Analyze manufacturing and distribution variances, identifying root causes and recommending corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate inventory valuation and ensure reconciliations between the general ledger and sub-ledgers.
- Partner with operations and procurement teams to monitor cost trends and evaluate the financial impact of changes in materials, labor, and overhead.
- Support financial audits by preparing cost schedules, documentation, and reconciliations.
- Support monthly cost of goods sold (COGS) analysis and margin reports.
- Inventory
- Oversee the physical inventory program including monitoring and reporting the results of cycle and full counts.
- Develop policies and procedures for inventory handling, transfers, and adjustments.
- Monitor cycle count programs to ensure consistent inventory accuracy.
- Partner with operations and warehouse teams to minimize obsolescence, and write-offs.
- Review slow-moving or obsolete inventory and ensure timely provisioning or disposal.
- Process Improvement and Controls
- Evaluate existing cost accounting procedures and recommend improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to ensure compliance with company policies and GAAP.
- Collaborate with IT and operations to enhance ERP reporting and costing modules.
- Collaboration and Leadership
- Partner with site controllers, plant managers, and operational leaders to align financial and operational objectives.
- Mentor and develop cost accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability and professional growth.
- Participate in cross-functional projects focused on operational excellence and financial performance.
- Supports budgeting and forecast processes by providing actual cost and cost estimates.
- Supports the track of key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide actionable insights to leadership.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive cost accounting experience in a manufacturing or distribution environment.
- Strong knowledge of standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory accounting principles.
- Experience with ERP systems (Epicor, SAP, or similar) and advanced Excel proficiency.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, multi-site environment.
- High attention to detail and commitment to financial accuracy and integrity.
Reports To
Division Controller
Compensation:
- Base: $120,000 - $140,000 per hour
- Bonus: 20% Target Bonus
- Total Compensation (Base + Bonus): The successful candidate could reasonably expect a Total Compensation Package in the range of $144,000 - $177,500 per year
- Equity: This role is not eligible for equity opportunities / awards.
