Starting Pay: $ $22.00/hour (based on experience)
Schedule: 20+ hours/week | Consistent and stable hours
About the Role:
SafeSplash Swim School is seeking mature, dependable, and compassionate professionals to serve as Special Needs Swim Instructors. This role focuses on delivering high-quality swim instruction to children and adults with special needs, physical injuries, or developmental disabilities in a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
We are looking for individuals with experience in aquatics therapy or adaptive swim instruction-those who are calm under pressure, passionate about helping others, and reliable to follow a consistent schedule.
Key Traits We're Looking For:
- Experienced with special needs populations (children, teens, and/or adults)
- Patient, enthusiastic, and motivated to see students grow
- Strong communicator with both students and caregivers
- Able to follow and adapt curriculum to individual student needs
- Reliable, organized, and punctual
- Teach swim lessons to individuals with special needs, injuries, or disabilities
- Follow the SafeSplash curriculum and adapt lessons to student ability
- Maintain a positive, encouraging, and safe learning environment
- Track student progress and provide individualized feedback to families
- Ensure safety on the pool deck and in the water at all times
- Collaborate with team members and leadership on student needs and progress
- Maintain accurate records: attendance, skill updates, incident reports
- Assist with equipment setup/breakdown and pool safety maintenance
- Attend ongoing monthly trainings and certification updates
- Strong swimmer (you'll be asked to complete a swim test)
- Experience in aquatics therapy, adaptive swim instruction, or working with students with special needs (REQUIRED)
- CPR, AED & First Aid Certification (or ability to obtain within 30 days)
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI) or Basic Swim Instructor (BSI) Certification within 30 days of hire
- Must be available Monday-Friday afternoons/evenings (4:00-8:00 PM) and Saturday mornings (9:00 AM-2:00 PM)
- Reliable transportation
- Able to lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs
- Excellent attendance, punctuality, and communication skills
- Must pass pre-employment and annual drug tests and background checks
- 1+ year teaching, volunteering, or coaching children or special needs individuals
- Bilingual in Spanish (a plus, not required)
- Experience with behavioral management or sensory processing needs (a plus)
- Frequent movement in and out of the pool
- Long periods of standing and walking in the water
- Interacting with all ages
- Cleaning and setting up equipment before/after classes
- Paid training in the SafeSplash curriculum
