Job Overview: The Activity Assistant will play a crucial role in enhancing the quality of life for residents diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Dementia. This position involves implementing engaging activities that promote cognitive stimulation, social interaction, and emotional well-being.
Duties:

Activity Planning and Implementation

  • Execute a variety of individualized and group activities tailored to the interests and abilities of residents.
  • Incorporate sensory activities, arts and crafts, music therapy, games, and physical exercise into the programming.
  • Adapt activities based on residents' changing needs and abilities.

Resident Engagement

  • Foster a welcoming and supportive environment that encourages participation.
  • Build positive relationships with residents, understanding their personal histories and preferences.
  • Provide one-on-one support to residents who may require additional assistance.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with nursing staff, therapists, and family members to ensure a holistic approach to resident care.
  • Attend team meetings to discuss resident progress and any necessary adjustments to care plans.

Documentation

  • Maintain accurate records of activities and resident participation.
  • Monitor and report any changes in residents' behavior or health to the nursing staff.

Safety and Compliance

  • Ensure a safe and healthy environment for all residents during activities.
  • Follow all facility policies and procedures regarding resident care and safety.

Skills

  • Creativity and enthusiasm for engaging with residents.
  • Experience in geriatric care or a related field preferred.
  • Understanding of dementia and its impact on individuals and their families.
  • Strong communication skills and a compassionate demeanor.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience working with people with disabilities is an asset.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and assist residents as needed.
  • Capability to stand, walk, and engage in physical activities throughout the shift, indoors and outdoors.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $16.00 per hour

Expected hours: 24 – 36 per week

Work Location: In person
