Description of Work

Ability to conduct routine inspections for compliance with contract agreements in accordance with standard specifications for roads and structures on pavement markings, markers, delineation, and sign installation. Employee may assist higher level technician in the performance of traffic engineering studies and traffic counts along with gathering data to develop purchase order contracts within the Traffic Engineering Department.
Employee will keep various project records/reports. Assists sign and paint crews when needed. Take field measurements of various completed items and make calculations to determine contract pay quantities.
Employee will be expected to perform duties without constant supervision and should be able to read resource materials to determine answers to sign and paint requirements. Employee will be subject to both inside and outside extreme environment conditions, in addition to working along highway traffic. Other duties will be related to the support of the Traffic Services and Traffic Engineering Departments.

Salary Grade and Salary Range: NC07 $35,984-$62,971
Management prefers applicants with the following:
- Experience planning, developing, scheduling, tracking, and completing projects independently or with limited supervision
- Experience applying engineering concepts to solve complex problems
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments
- Experience in customer service related to resolving problems that involves explaining complicated engineering concepts to various customer groups
- Knowledge and skill in the use of computer equipment, iPad and software
Additional Expectations:
General knowledge of mathematical functions, specific codes and construction processes pertaining to pavement markings, markers, delineation, and sign installation. Skill in the use of office equipment such as calculators/computers. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Ability to read and interpret contract plans, contract provisions, specifications and perform inspection procedures. Will be required to read plan details and to make accurate calculations. Must have the ability to make notes and prepare routine reports. Should possess good communication skills. Will operate a state motor vehicle.
Safety toe shoes required. Must be able to safely perform manual tasks involving the use of tools on steep and rough terrain. Work outside in various types of weather, terrain, and hours. Must be able to work nights and weekends as required. Employee must be proficient in record keeping. Employee will adhere to the Department's safety program and plan all work with workplace and traffic control safety in mind.
Minimum Education and Experience

Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology or assigned discipline from an appropriately accredited institution; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
