About the role We are seeking to appoint a part‑time Senior Design and Technology Technician on a permanent contract basis working term time with effect from 13 April 2026. The post offers an excellent opportunity to work in a very strong Design & Technology Faculty in a highly successful 11‑19 academy which holds good Ofsted status. The role will report to the Faculty Leader of Technology and the candidate will provide full technician support to teaching staff and contribute to the effective delivery of the Design and Technology curriculum.
Qualifications
NVQ Level 3 in Engineering, Design Technology or relevant discipline (or equivalent experience)
Hardworking, enthusiastic and highly committed
Successful track record of supporting a science faculty (for experienced candidates)
Personal Qualities The successful applicant should have a keen interest within design and technology.
Responsibilities
Manage the technician team, including directing working arrangements, undertaking appraisals and identifying training requirements
Maintain a flexible and proactive approach to departmental support, contributing to smooth daily operations
Ensure efficient preparation and organization of lesson materials as required
Support teaching staff and pupils during lessons
Provide assistance to all department staff as required
Act as Health and Safety representative and ensure application of procedures
Maintain stocks of materials and equipment
Work alongside staff in preparing materials for examination coursework
Assist in ensuring the safe conduct of students in the department
Participate in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for identification of learning, development and training opportunities in discussion with line manager
Comply with individual responsibilities for health and safety in the workplace
Ensure duties are in accordance with the Academy’s Equal Opportunities Policy

Remuneration This appointment is a part‑time post for 38 weeks/annum, 30 hours/week, Mon – Fri. The annual salary will be in accordance with the Plume Academy Support Pay Scale, from appointment for a full‑time post currently involves a salary of Band 3 Point 17–25 with an actual starting salary of £14 697 per annum. Salaries are reviewed by national negotiation with effect from 1 April each year. Progression through the Pay Scale is subject to an annual performance review process.
