Position Title:
Visual Communications Coordinator (maternity replacement)

Hours:
28 hours/week (in person)

Contract:
1 year contract

Wages:
$24.31 to $26.73 /hr

Location:
2 St. Lawrence Drive, Cornwall, Ontario, K6H 4Z1

Reporting:
Program Lead for Research and Community Engagement (working in collaboration with other teams)

Closing date:
February 1, 2026

Transition:
Two-week crossover with outgoing staff (if possible)

Description of Project and Position

The Visual Communications Coordinator will develop visual content and design across all programs within the River Institute, including the Great River Rapport ), the St. Lawrence River Strategy ), and others as needed. This position plays a key role in communicating River Institute research and impact. By developing compelling visual content, the coordinator helps make complex scientific information accessible, supports fundraising and outreach, and strengthens the River Institute's public presence.

Duties

  • Develop visual content and design communications materials for the River Institute, including content for websites, social media, newsletters, and informational, promotional materials (both online and print), and project-specific materials (for example, for the Great River Rapport, St. Lawrence River Strategy, the Annual River Symposium).

  • Prepare layout and graphical content for public-facing documents and presentations in support of River Institute programs (online and in print).

  • Collaborate with project team members to develop infographics for the River Institute programs that share information (including scientific data and research findings) with the public.

  • Photo-document River Institute activities, including scientific research (field and laboratory), education, and outreach programs.

  • Work with the Administration team to plan and develop the River Institute's Annual Report including the design and visual content.

  • Produce Impact Reports for donors and work with the Development Officer and Program Lead for Administration and Fundraising to design material for donor engagement.

  • Facilitate appropriate use of organizational branding across all River Institute platforms and materials.

  • Design printed brochures, posters, banners, event signage, and branded merchandise, for programs.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Requirements

  • Graduate of college or university in graphic design or demonstrated experience pertaining to the duties listed above.

  • Experience or academic background in environmental science, biology life sciences, or other related discipline (asset).

  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team, exhibiting a high degree of initiative, collaboration, self-discipline, and professionalism.

  • Project/time management and organizational skills.

  • Ability to read and write well in English.

  • High level of competency with relevant software programs i.e.: Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop).

  • Ability to use a professional camera and produce high quality images (asset)
