Job Summary
Have you ever wondered about the dangers lurking in the shadows of the Internet? We are looking for curious individuals who have an inner desire to protect others from being exploited on the Internet. So you want a chance to get into the InfoSec industry, but don't have the experience or knowledge yet? An Internship might be perfect for you. Vancouver based threat research company is opening two (2) intern positions for the spring 2025. This is a role suited for those who have an interest and skills in Information Security and are looking for work experience in the field.

You? You have a curious mind, you have always loved computers from an early age, and you just had to learn how things work. You took it on yourself to learn more about Linux and Networking, beyond what they taught in school. You already have good communication skills, and enjoy being part of a community. And you have a knack for noticing what is different and out of the ordinary.

The candidate we choose will have excellent computer skills, and both written and verbal english. Above average typing speed, and familiar with Linux and the Linux command line. A fundamental understanding of internet protocols, such as Email and DNS, HTTPS is required.

And most important, the applicant must be able to demonstrate on how/why acting as a Blue Team member is important. Can you tell us why cybersecurity is important to you, and how you would like to be involved in making the world online a little bit safer?

Responsibilities

This role works closely with the Threat Research team to help identify the various methods of cyber criminals. You will be collecting and analyzing data, finding patterns and anomalies to help uncover the TTPs of these actors. A logical mind is a must so that these processes can be replicated and automated. As this is an entry level position, many fundamental topics will be covered, starting the path to become a true Blue Team member.

  • Review all inbound communications, triage, address and escalate issues as needed
  • Learn common and proprietary tools required to perform threat analytics
  • Create reports for internal and public dissemination on threat detection events
  • Support the documentation of research findings, methodologies, and best practices.
  • Assist threat researchers, including sorting through data, and running analytics

Experience

  • High school graduate
  • Strong communication skills (spoken and written)
  • Problem solving skills and the ability to logically express solutions and analyses
  • Minimum WPM typing speed
  • Computer skills (ability to self search, familiar with computers)
  • Knowledge in at least one scripting language
  • Know what Malware and Spam are
  • Recently completed a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology
    • or -
  • 2 years equivalent work experience in the IT Industry
  • Familiarity with Linux and the Linux Command line, 'vi' and network tools
  • Basic understanding of internet networking technologies, DNS and routing
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity principles, including risk assessment and mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge of ISO 27001 standards is preferred but not required.
  • Experience or coursework related to Juniper networking equipment is a plus.
  • Understanding of cloud architecture concepts will be beneficial.
  • Previous exposure to vulnerability research techniques is desirable.
  • Basic knowledge of load balancing strategies and high availability configurations is advantageous.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail, along with excellent problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment while also being self-motivated.
