Key Responsibilities:
  • Creates and maintains detailed engineering level work plan as tool for guiding and proper engineering execution through ED, DV, PV and launch (as applicable)
  • Leads Engineering Development Team (EDT) – mechanism for governing engineering progress
  • Publishes and maintains engineering Issues, Risks and Opportunities document
  • Responsible for proper and timely completion of Design Sign Off (DSO), Requirements Sign Off (RSO), and Safety Sign Off (SSO) documentation for project gates
  • Primary Battery Systems engineering contact to the customer
  • Responsible for project Engineering budget and resource planning and tracking
  • Coordinate the design efforts of functional engineering teams from multiple locations to ensure an optimal integrated system that meets overall requirements.
  • Participate in the specification and design of all battery components – cell, mechanical, software, and electronics/BMS. Manage cross‑functional engineering teams to accomplish an optimized system considering trade‑off studies.
  • Assist in the design for manufacturability (DFM) to ensure that the design of all components, sub‑systems, and battery system optimizes the manufacturing process at the sub‑assembly, battery system assembly, and vehicle level assembly.
  • Release complete battery system to assembly plant.
  • Develop relationships with suppliers to help generate component specifications and to perform make vs. buy analysis in conjunction with functional groups.
  • Support APQP efforts to ensure the delivery of a quality finished product and process. Assist in the development and implementation of a control plan.
  • Manage engineering documentation to ensure a sensible archive of information including engineering calculations, engineering drawings, intellectual property, DFMEAs, validation reports, meeting minutes, trip reports, and customer documents/communication.
  • Manage or provide technical direction to designers, engineers, suppliers, and support personnel.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field with extensive industry experience (15+ years)
  • or (Preferred) Technical Master’s degree (thesis track or equivalent) in related field with proven industry experience (10+ years)
  • or (Preferred) Scientifically relevant Ph.D. from a technically rigorous program and institution with some industry experience (5‑15 years)
  • Proven experience in Systems Engineering or Technical Project Leadership, particularly in the automotive industry.
  • Strong understanding of low voltage Lithium‑Ion batteries including electronics and software is nice to have
  • Experience with complex systems and automotive customers.
  • Experience with automotive Functional Safety, ISO26262
  • Experience in ASPICE
  • Experience with JIRA and JAMA
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Team player, supportive attitude
  • Fluency in English and German
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the working time
