Family owned and professionally managed, Westbrook Trailers is a division of The Westbrook Group of Companies specializing in the manufacturing of Galvalume steel light duty trailers, and partially assembled kit trailers.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Senior Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining advanced machinery, troubleshooting complex issues, and performing quality checks to ensure production standards are met. This role also involves leading and mentoring junior operators, developing best practices, and contributing to a safe and efficient work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Machine Operations:

  • Operate fabrication equipment including break press, turret punch press, and tube benders;
  • Set up machinery including programming, staging jobs, performing adjustments, cleaning, and maintenance to ensure efficient operation;
  • Read, interpret and follow manufacturing drawings, work orders, schedules, operating instructions and inspection sheets;
  • Load raw materials and unload finished products, requiring the ability to lift heavy items and operate a forklift.

Maintenance and Quality Assurance:

  • Monitor the production process, inspect finished products for accuracy and quality, correct errors and limit machine down time;
  • Ensure completion of daily equipment inspections, and assist in monitoring all equipment for potential maintenance or safety issues;
  • Optimize machine performance and minimize material waste.

Training and Continuous Improvements:

  • Mentor and train team members to achieve maximum productivity.
  • Ensure efficient and effective use of space in an organized and safe work environment;
  • Support ongoing continuous improvement projects and promote lean manufacturing principles;
  • Support safety improvements and monthly inspections as required.

General:

  • Work in compliance with company policies and procedures and Occupational Health & Safety Act for Industrial Establishments;
  • Participate in other meetings as required;
  • Perform other duties as required in a flexible, collaborative environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum 5 years' experience in a metal fabrication environment; experience in the following areas are required:
  • Break Press CNC programming, set-up and operation
  • Turret Punch Press CNC programming, set-up and operation
  • Additional training and certifications an asset (industry courses, AWS, ASME, CWB etc.).
  • Completion of secondary school or GED equivalent.

  • Strong organization and time management skills to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment while maintaining quality standards;
  • Strong interpersonal skills to work in a professional and cooperative manner with all levels of employees and management;
  • Able to read detail drawings and procedures;
  • Strong team player able to share opinions and expertise to solve problems collaboratively;
  • Effective problem-solving skills;
  • Ability to learn quickly;
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Flexibility to change shifts in peak season production to optimize fabrication requirements.
  • Works in a manufacturing shop environment.
  • Exposure to elements such as high levels of noise and/or temperature.
  • Will require some lifting and operation of hand tools and equipment.
  • Frequent exposure to moving equipment such as forklifts and material handling equipment.
  • May require overtime and weekend work occasionally to meet deadlines.
