Critical Systems is a growing mechanical engineering and HVAC solutions firm supporting complex commercial and mission-critical facilities. As we continue to scale, we are seeking an experienced Controller to lead our accounting function and partner closely with leadership, operations, and sales.

This is a senior, hands-on role ideal for someone who enjoys building strong processes, leading teams, and supporting a project-based organization.

What You'll Do

  • Oversee all accounting operations in compliance with U.S. GAAP
  • Manage general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, revenue recognition, and commissions
  • Lead the monthly close process, including reconciliations, cost allocations, and financial statement preparation
  • Review customer and vendor contracts and ensure proper revenue recognition
  • Implement and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies
  • Lead annual audits and manage tax filings and external partners (banking, insurance, auditors)
  • Prepare monthly financial reporting packages for leadership and banking partners
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and planning
  • Build, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, sales, HR, and operations on financial initiatives

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field (Master's preferred)
  • CPA preferred
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP and technical accounting
  • Experience in project-based, engineering, construction, or professional services environments a plus
  • ERP system experience and a track record of improving accounting processes and controls
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to operate independently
  • Strong communicator and collaborative business partner

Compensation & Benefits

  • Salary range: $110,000 – $175,000 based on experience
