Overview
We are looking to hire many Marine Electricians for our night shift. We have A Class and B Class openings available. The ideal, A Class candidate will have 5+ years of experience working as an A Class Marine Electrician in a new construction shipyard environment. B Class requires 2+ years. This is a long-term/permanent career opportunity, NOT a short-term contract.

Responsibilities

  • responsible for the full installation, commissioning, and repair of complex marine electrical systems on naval and commercial vessels, working from detailed drawings, adhering to strict safety (NAVSEA) standards, and often guiding trainees while maintaining high productivity and quality in tasks like wiring, power distribution, and navigation/communication systems.
  • Installation: Install, connect, and test electrical systems, wiring, power distribution, lighting, navigation, and communication equipment on new builds.
  • Commissioning & Testing: Perform skilled commissioning of electrical systems and check circuits to ensure proper function.
  • Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose and fix faults in electrical systems to maintain mission capability.
  • Standards Compliance: Execute work according to Austal standards, NAVSEA (Naval Sea Systems Command) requirements, and U.S. Navy/Coast Guard specifications.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Work from detailed electrical and mechanical drawings and instructions.
  • Leadership: Direct and provide on-the-job training and mentorship to trades assistants, trainees, and apprentices.
  • Physical Demands: Capable of physical tasks like climbing, bending, lifting up to 50-75 lbs occasionally, and working in demanding shipboard environments.

A Class Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience working as an A Class Marine Electrician in a new construction shipyard environment.
  • Must pass a rigorous Marine Electrical written & hands on/practical assessment prior to starting work. (The candidates' score on this assessment will determine whether the candidate will be offered an A Class or B Class position)
  • Three (3) years of experience in AC/DC installations required
  • Proficient with electrical systems including but not limited to machinery shutdown / navigational communications / internal communications / PLC Systems.
  • Experienced level of termination skills of AC/DC and control systems.
  • Sound knowledge in the installation of cabling systems to meet marine class society, Navy and Coast Guard regulations.
  • Interpretations of electrical schematics and documentation.
  • Formal Electrical training through an apprenticeship or comparable program is preferred
  • Shipbuilding experience is preferred
  • Knowledge of commissioning AC/DC and control systems is preferred
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent required or two years maritime experience
  • Ability to demonstrate a high level of competency in the use of all trade related power tools, testing equipment.
  • Able to train workforce on safe use of all power and hand tools and testing equipment.
  • Supply own trade tools to be able to maintain productive output and perform 1st class electrical duties.

B Class Requirements:

  • 2 years' experience in AC/DC Installations or comparable technical education.
  • Experienced level of termination Skills of AC/DC and Control Systems.
  • Sound knowledge in the installation of cabling systems to meet marine class society, Navy and Coast Guard regulations.
  • Interpretations of electrical schematics and documentation.
  • Basic ability to demonstrate a level of competency in the use of all trade related power tools.
  • Able to learn safe use of all Power and Hand Tools and Testing Equipment.
  • Supply own Trade tools to be able to maintain productive output and perform B Class Electrical Duties

Compliance Requirements (for A & B Class):

  • Must be able to provide specific identification documents: A valid state issued photo ID + either the original or a certified copy of your birth certificate (a valid US passport may be accepted in lieu of a birth certificate on a case-by-case basis)
  • Must be able to pass a 10 panel rapid urinalysis drug screen
  • Must be able to pass a 7 year criminal history background check (No violent/theft felonies in the last 7 years, no drug related felonies in the last 3 years)
  • Must have reliable transportation to get to work
  • Must be able to relocate to/commute to the Mobile, AL area prior to starting work
  • Must be able to work required work schedule (NIGHT SHIFT ONLY - 6/12s, Mon-Sat 3:30pm-4am)
  • Must be located in the United States & be eligible/authorized to work in the United States without VISA sponsorship

Employment Details:

  • A Class Compensation: $34/hr; Overtime Rate: $51/OThr; weekly income (before tax): $2,992/week {40hrs of straight time @ $34/hr= $1,360/week + 32hrs of over time @ $51/OThr = $1,632/week; Straight time+ Overtime/week= $2,992/week}
  • B Class Compensation: $25.75/hr; Overtime Rate:$38.62/OThr; Weekly income (before tax): $2,265.84/week {40hrs of straight time @ $25.75=$1,030/week + 32hrs of over time @ $38.62/OThr=$1,235.84/week; Straight time+ Overtime/week=$2,265.84}
  • Work Schedule: NIGHT SHIFT ONLY 6/12s schedule, Mon-Sat 3:30pm-4:00AM

Pay: $ $34.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 72.0 per week
