Location: Washington, DC / Hybrid (2 Days In-Office, 3 Days Remote)

Position Overview

The Director of Development provides strategic leadership to expand and sustain NMAC's fundraising initiatives. This role oversees all aspects of development strategy, including corporate, foundation, government, and individual giving. The Director will build long-term partnerships, strengthen donor relationships, and secure critical resources to advance NMAC's mission to end the HIV epidemic and address health disparities in communities of color.

The ideal candidate is a bold, relationship-driven leader with experience in all facets of fundraising, from sponsorships to major gifts. They must be visionary, collaborative, and passionate about equity, community, and justice.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop, monitor, and evaluate an annual work plan and budget aligned with NMAC's strategic goals.
  • Partner with the Chief Development Officer to design and implement a comprehensive development strategy that diversifies NMAC's revenue streams.
  • Lead and support the cultivation and stewardship of donors, sponsors, and partners.

Fundraising & Resource Development

  • Oversee proposal development for corporate, foundation, and government funding.
  • Manage sponsorship solicitation and donor engagement efforts.
  • Ensure all development activities are timely, compliant, and on budget.

Team & Systems Management

  • Supervise development staff, including the Grant Manager and Development Coordinator.
  • Support the Board Development Committee and strengthen board engagement in fundraising.
  • Oversee development systems, reporting, and data integrity.

Collaboration & Representation

  • Represent NMAC in donor meetings, public forums, and events.
  • Work cross-functionally to align fundraising with programmatic impact.
  • Travel as needed for donor cultivation and conferences.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive nonprofit fundraising experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven success in securing major gifts, sponsorships, and grants.
  • Exceptional communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience managing budgets, teams, and CRM systems.
  • Deep commitment to NMAC's mission and to advancing racial and health equity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365.

Compensation and Benefits

  • In addition to a competitive salary, we offer a comprehensive benefits package designed to support the health, well-being, and growth of our team members.
  • The salary range is $130,000 - $175,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
