We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable high school mathematics teacher to inspire students and foster deep mathematical understanding. The ideal candidate will create engaging, rigorous learning experiences that prepare students for college, career, and lifelong problem-solving while building confidence and mathematical fluency.
Essential ResponsibilitiesInstruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver standards-based mathematics instruction aligned with state standards and Common Core State Standards for Mathematics
- Teach courses that may include Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, or other advanced mathematics courses
- Develop coherent lessons that build conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and application skills
- Integrate multiple representations (graphical, numerical, algebraic, verbal) to deepen student comprehension
- Utilize diverse instructional strategies including direct instruction, collaborative learning, inquiry-based activities, and problem-solving tasks
- Incorporate technology tools (graphing calculators, dynamic geometry software, statistical programs, online platforms) to enhance learning
- Design and implement formative and summative assessments that measure student understanding and growth
Differentiation & Student Support
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of learners at various levels, from struggling students to advanced learners
- Provide additional support through tutoring, remediation, and intervention strategies
- Challenge advanced students with enrichment opportunities and accelerated content
- Implement accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs and 504 plans
- Foster growth mindset and mathematical confidence in all students
- Use data analysis to identify student needs and adjust instruction accordingly
Classroom Management & Culture
- Establish and maintain a positive, respectful classroom environment conducive to learning
- Implement effective classroom management strategies that maximize instructional time
- Create a culture where mistakes are valued as learning opportunities
- Encourage mathematical discourse, questioning, and reasoning
- Promote persistence and problem-solving skills
Communication & Collaboration
- Communicate regularly with students and families regarding academic progress, assignments, and expectations
- Collaborate with mathematics department colleagues to ensure curriculum alignment and instructional coherence
- Work with guidance counselors to support appropriate student course placement
- Coordinate with special education staff to support students with diverse learning needs
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and assessment data
- Participate in department meetings, faculty meetings, and professional development sessions
- Stay current with best practices in mathematics education and content knowledge
- Contribute to school-wide committees, initiatives, and improvement efforts
- Supervise students during assigned duties (hallway, lunch, study hall, etc.)
- Participate in parent-teacher conferences, open houses, and school events
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Mathematics Education, or related field
- Valid Iowa state teaching license/certification in Secondary Mathematics (or eligibility to obtain)
- Strong content knowledge across high school mathematics curriculum
- Understanding of current mathematics teaching methodologies and pedagogical practices
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to equity and access in mathematics education
- Deep understanding of mathematical concepts, connections, and progressions across the high school curriculum
- Ability to explain complex mathematical concepts clearly and accessibly
- Skilled in creating engaging, challenging tasks that promote critical thinking and problem-solving
- Strong data analysis skills to inform instructional decisions
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities
- Ability to build positive relationships with students from diverse backgrounds
- Collaborative mindset and willingness to engage in continuous improvement
