About the Role:

The HVAC Journeyman plays a critical role in the construction industry by installing, maintaining, and repairing heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems to ensure optimal indoor air quality and comfort. This position requires a deep understanding of HVAC systems, including electrical components, refrigeration cycles, and ductwork installation, to deliver efficient and code-compliant solutions. The Journeyman will collaborate closely with project managers, apprentices, and other tradespeople to complete projects on time and within budget while adhering to safety standards. This role demands troubleshooting skills to diagnose system malfunctions and implement effective repairs promptly. Ultimately, the HVAC Journeyman ensures that residential, commercial, and industrial clients receive reliable climate control systems that meet their specific needs and regulatory requirements.

Pay Range: $30-$34/HR (DOE)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid Journeyman HVAC license or certification recognized by the District of Columbia or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair.
  • Proficient knowledge of HVAC systems, electrical wiring, refrigeration, and ductwork.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and manufacturer manuals.
  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and OSHA regulations related to HVAC work.
  • Preferred Qualifications:

  • EPA Section 608 Certification for handling refrigerants.
  • Experience with energy-efficient HVAC technologies and green building standards.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Additional certifications such as NATE (North American Technician Excellence).
  • Experience working on large-scale commercial construction projects.
  • Responsibilities:

  • Install, service, and repair HVAC systems including furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ventilation units according to blueprints and technical specifications.
  • Perform routine maintenance and inspections to ensure HVAC systems operate efficiently and safely.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues using specialized tools and equipment, and execute necessary repairs or replacements.
  • Collaborate with team members and contractors to coordinate work schedules and ensure compliance with building codes and safety regulations.
  • Maintain accurate records of work performed, materials used, and time spent on each project.
