Role Overview

We are seeking a strategic and execution-oriented
Chief Data Officer (CDO)
to lead our enterprise-wide data strategy in a fast-growing crypto and digital financial services environment. This role will be responsible for transforming data into a core business asset, driving data governance, analytics, AI enablement, regulatory readiness, and data-driven decision-making across the organization.

The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in data architecture, analytics, and governance with a strong understanding of financial markets, digital assets, and regulatory expectations. This is a highly visible executive role with direct impact on growth, risk management, product innovation, and operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

Data Strategy & Leadership

  • Define and execute the company's enterprise data strategy aligned with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • Establish data as a strategic asset to support trading, risk, compliance, product development, and customer insights.
  • Serve as the executive owner of data vision, culture, and best practices across the organization.

Data Architecture & Infrastructure

  • Oversee the design and scalability of data platforms, pipelines, warehouses, and real-time analytics systems.
  • Ensure high availability, accuracy, and integrity of structured and unstructured data across multiple systems.
  • Partner with Engineering, Security, and Cloud teams to ensure performance, resilience, and scalability.

Data Governance, Privacy & Compliance

  • Establish data governance frameworks, policies, and standards (data quality, lineage, access control).
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations (e.g., SEC, FINRA, AML/KYC, GDPR, SOC 2, data privacy laws).
  • Lead initiatives related to data risk management, audit readiness, and regulatory reporting.

Analytics, AI & Business Intelligence

  • Drive advanced analytics, machine learning, and AI initiatives to enhance trading strategies, fraud detection, customer behavior analysis, and operational efficiency.
  • Oversee enterprise BI, dashboards, and reporting for executive and business stakeholders.
  • Promote self-service analytics and data literacy across teams.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with Product, Trading, Risk, Compliance, Finance, and Marketing leadership.
  • Translate complex data insights into clear, actionable business recommendations.
  • Support M&A, partnerships, and new product launches through data due diligence and integration.

Team Building & Management

  • Build, lead, and mentor high-performing data teams (Data Engineering, Analytics, Data Science, Governance).
  • Establish hiring standards, performance metrics, and career development frameworks.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required

  • 12+ years of progressive experience in data leadership roles, with at least 5 years at an executive or VP level.
  • Strong background in financial services, fintech, crypto, or capital markets.
  • Deep expertise in data architecture, analytics platforms, and modern data stacks.
  • Proven experience establishing enterprise data governance and compliance frameworks.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory and risk considerations in financial data environments.
  • Excellent executive communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred

  • Experience in crypto exchanges, digital asset platforms, trading firms, or blockchain-based businesses.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure), real-time data systems, and big data technologies.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML applications in financial services.
  • Prior experience supporting regulatory audits and examinations.
