Who We Are
Down to Earth is a growing private practice of therapists specializing in serving neurodivergent and 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals. We provide trauma-informed, person-centred counselling to children, youth, parents, young adults, and couples. We prioritize collaboration and connection within our team and services.
Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, skilled independent contractor therapist to join our expanding private practice. The ideal candidate has experience with providing therapy to couples who experience a range of challenges, such as emotional dysregulation, communication breakdowns, complex family dynamics, and parenting differences. This position is best suited for someone trained in couples therapy modalities such as Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), Gottman Method, Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO), or the Developmental Model.
Although you're welcome to support couples both in-person and virtually, we require that you be available to be on-site 1-2 days/week, while being available to support a minimum of 5 session hours per week. At least one block of time each week is required to be in the evening and/or weekend (as couples often seek availability during these times). There would be opportunities to support clients in a full-time capacity in the future if this is of interest to the candidate.
Duties
- Facilitate couples therapy with a range of diverse couples
- Maintain detailed documentation of therapy sessions, client progress, and case management activities in compliance with healthcare regulations.
- Provide psychoeducation to couples when appropriate regarding clinical frameworks that support your treatment plan
- Invest in your own education via seeking clinical supervision, training, consultations, etc., to continue learning and improve clinical skills.
- Show up as a supportive and collaborative team member at Down to Earth
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Psychology, Counselling, Social Work, or a related field. BSWs with extensive experience would be considered.
- Fully registered and in good standing with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO) or Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Services Workers (OCSWSSW).
- Obtain malpractice insurance upon hire.

- Experience providing couples therapy in a clinical setting is required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to service excellence, including continuing education and continuous quality improvement.
- Openness and eagerness to work with diverse populations, including BIPOC, 2SLGBTQIA+, and neurodivergent partners.

Experience and traits that we consider as assets as a candidate:
· Formal training and certification in couples therapy modalities, such as Emotion-Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT), Gottman Method, Intimacy from the Inside Out (IFIO), or the Developmental Model.
· The experience or the wish to conduct family therapy
· Experience in parent coaching and/or knowledge of attachment-based parenting best practices
· Experience in working with spouses who engage in non-monogamy and/or kink
· The drive to mentor and collaborate with team members
· Have lived experience with neurodivergence, a 2SLGBTQIA+ identity, or are a person of the global majority.
