Summary of Role:  

The Nurse Manager strengthens GPTLHB's mission by providing comprehensive leadership and oversight of nursing services, care management, and clinical operations to ensure culturally respectful, high-quality care for relatives. This role supports clinical teams and relatives by coordinating nursing activities, developing staff competencies, improving workflows, and ensuring care is delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with AAAHC standards, federal regulations, and tribal values. 

Essential Responsibilities: 

These responsibilities apply to all roles and ensure alignment with GPTLHB's strategic commitments, AAAHC requirements, and Baldrige-aligned operational excellence. 

1. Cultural & Relative Engagement 

Ensures nursing staff provide culturally respectful, trauma-informed, relative-centered care. 

Advocates for relatives and families during care coordination, ensuring their choices and voices guide care planning. 

Supports a healing environment by integrating cultural respect, traditional practices, and calm, compassionate communication. 

Responds timely and professionally to concerns from relatives, families, and community partners. 

2. Knowledge, Quality & Continuous Improvement 

Provides leadership and management oversight of all daily nursing activities, ensuring compliance with state/federal laws, AAAHC requirements, and OHC policies. 

Develops, maintains, and implements nursing policies, procedures, and competencies. 

Conducts and oversees chart reviews, audits, patient flow monitoring, and/or GPRA, PI, and quality measures. 

Evaluates nursing staff performance, training needs, and adherence to clinical standards. 

Leads or participates in process improvement related to nursing practice, care coordination, and care transitions. 

3. Collaboration, Communication & Respect 

Coordinates nursing activities across teams, working closely with VPs, CMO, Clinic Managers, and Supervisors. 

Leads and mentors nursing staff, fostering a culture of teamwork, communication, and professionalism. 

Conduct meetings with nursing staff and case managers to review quality data, training needs, and improvement opportunities. 

Participates as an active member of the core clinical team. 

4. Operational Excellence & Problem Solving 

Assesses staffing needs and makes assignments based on skill level and scope of practice. 

Utilizes clinical best practices, care management models, and systems to optimize patient outcomes. 

Identifies operational gaps and implements effective solutions. 

Manages nursing supplies and equipment needs. 

Independently resolves complex problems related to nursing practice, patient care, and workflow challenges. 

5. Leadership & Strategic Advancement 

Participate in recruitment, hiring, onboarding, precepting, evaluating, and disciplining nursing staff. 

Ensures nursing staff operate at the top of their licensure/scope. 

Leads the development and coordination of case management and care management programs. 

Conducts ongoing evaluation of nursing program effectiveness and proposes strategic improvements. 

Provides reports monthly, quarterly, and as assigned. 

Qualifications and Skills: 

Minimum Requirements 

Education & Experience: Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, or an associate's degree and five (5) years progressively responsible experience. The experience required for supervisory positions will be inclusive of at least one (1) year of supervisory/management experience. 

Certifications/Licensure: Valid RN license (must remain current) 

Technical Skills: Clinical competency, leadership, communication, analytical skills, proficiency in Word/Excel/PowerPoint, and ability to manage complex situations. 

Preferred Qualifications 

Experience in tribal health or healthcare environment 

Cultural knowledge, community engagement experience 

Compensation is based on relevant qualifications and experience. 

Physical Demands and Working Conditions: 

Standard office or clinical environment 

Sitting, standing, walking, lifting up to 25 lbs 

Use of office or clinical equipment 

Occasional weekends or after-hours work may be required
