A respected and well-established Engineering and Surveying firm in the Dallas / Fort Worth area has an excellent opportunity for an experienced Survey Technician with residential land surveying experience in Texas. In this role you will work with RPLS's, manage projects and interact with clients, overseeing and creating project designs involving site planning, commercial, survey crew support and residential building layout.
Survey Technician Job Description
Overview
This position utilizes critical thinking and reasoning skills to provide office and field support to assist Registered Professional Land Surveyors, field crews and drafters in the preparation and completion of typical survey projects, including boundary surveys, subdivision plats, construction calculations and staking, topographic surveys, separate instrument documents and quality control.
Responsibilities
Perform survey tasks at the direction of the survey project manager and/or project surveyor.
Completes detailed drawings from field survey data, sketches, plans, specifications and written or verbal instructions using AutoCAD Civil 3D
Provides technical support for assigned projects
Reviews work for completeness and accuracy prior to submitting to the RPLS for review
Prepares field packages, drawings, exhibits, legal descriptions and calculations and provides specific instructions
Conducts field checks upon request
Compiles, manipulates, and analyzes survey data
Develops and maintains databases of survey data
Assist with deed research and abstract deeds, creates base maps for field crews, process field crew data and produce final drawings
Processes acquired field data into a neat and accurate plat of survey and/or Metes and Bounds Description
Address a title commitment that includes all the exception documents.
Read and interpret zoning reports
Directing and assigning work to field crews
Customer service and answering client questions.
Creating surfaces in Civil 3D
Qualifications
Interest in the field of land surveying
Attention to detail
Working knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D
Working knowledge of Trimble Business Center
Working knowledge of differing types of field equipment
Working knowledge of survey field procedures
Understand measurement tolerances
Understanding of boundary resolutions, easements and plats
Ability to develop and maintain professional relationships
Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently
Effective time management and organizational skills
Flexibility to change priorities on job tasks and/or project deadlines, as needed
Ability to handle basic issues and problems and refer more complex issues to higher level staff
Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees in the organization, both verbally and written
Must be dependable and reliable
Education/Credentials
Formal education in surveying or related fields is preferred
Ability to obtain SIT certification preferred
