Contract : 12-month FTC with a potential to extend.
Role summary
We’re looking for a user‑centred web content manager to own and deliver our website content strategy, planning for the creation, delivery and governance of useful, usable content.
Working with subject matter experts, you’ll review, evaluate, update and guide the creation of content, ensuring it’s user‑centred, accessible and optimised for search, and delivers organisational objectives.
You’ll be a champion of UX principles and content best practice, supporting writers across the organisation to create the best possible online content that puts the needs of our users first.
Strong in project management and content design, you’ll be responsible for making our website easier for people to navigate, understand and use, from a single piece of content to an end‑to‑end journey. A top priority will be increasing completion of key site tasks such as donating and signing up for our e‑newsletter.
The HALO Trust works in some of the world’s most volatile conflict zones, so we’re looking for somebody who can be agile and responsive when unpredictable crises occur and ensure our homepage reflects our priorities in real time.
Reporting to the Global Head of Digital Platforms, this is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in transforming the way we communicate with our external audiences.
Responsibilities Develop our website content strategy, enacting plans for the creation, delivery and governance of useful, usable content
Work with stakeholders and subject matter experts to translate needs into website solutions, including actionable tasks for the development team via the backlog
Contribute to the continual iterative improvement of the site:
Manage backlog
Troubleshoot website errors and bugs, reporting where appropriate
Lead development sprints with our external agency, completing UAT and other tasks as required
Monitor and maintain technical aspects of existing website content in terms of URLs, page names, structure, metadata etc
Oversee publication of all website content
Write, edit and proof copy, ensuring it’s accessible, optimised for search, maximises goal conversions and follows good UX writing practices
Manage a range of onsite content, including pages, microcopy, forms, images and videos
Ensure appropriate content is shown to the user in the right place and in the best format, with a focus on increasing completion of top site tasks such as making a donation and signing up for our e‑newsletter.
Mentor our small group of website editors:
Provide training and ongoing support on writing for the web good practice
Provide training and ongoing support on using the CMS
Ensure adherence to good practices
Ensure content is always up‑to‑date
Measurement and evaluation:
Ensure tracking and reporting of content performance and KPIs, providing metrics and other insight to colleagues as appropriate
Take a data‑driven approach to decision‑making, using quantitative and qualitative insight to improve the performance of content
Collaborate with relevant colleagues such as the Senior Digital Marketing Manager to ensure digital components are optimised to work together and that user journeys across digital touchpoints are seamless
Experience of working with a CMS with multiple contributors (we use Umbraco)
Expert understanding of digital content best practices (writing for the web, plain English, accessibility issues, UX research)
Exceptional writing skills and attention to detail: confident in both micro‑ and long‑form copywriting; solid subbing and proofing skills
Demonstrable experience of content production processes with multiple stakeholders
An understanding of brand and tone of voice, applying best practice and house style across a large website with multiple authors and aims
Good data literacy, with an ability to take ownership of using data to drive content decisions
Understanding of SEO best practices and how and where to apply them
Adept at using analytics tools (eg GA4) to identify content trends, issues and insights
Attributes
Strong geopolitical interest – our website needs to reflect the changeable world in which we work
Ability to build good working relationships with different teams, and to work in a collaborative way
Confident explaining, advocating and defending content decisions to senior stakeholders
Passion for a data‑driven approach, with a commitment to digital analysis, optimising, testing and learning
Ability to work in a team remotely with a range of digital tools for planning and communication
Ability to multitask and manage a busy workload, equally happy to be hands‑on (completing smaller day‑to‑day tasks) and strategic
Strong on delivery (eg experience as project manager or similar)
This is a non‑contractual document that can be varied from time to time as circumstances dictate. All HALO staff are expected to demonstrate flexibility and willingness to perform appropriate tasks when required to do so.
