The Finance Manager is a strategic partner and plays a key role in shaping financial performance for Metro Wallcoverings. This position is responsible for analyzing business results, developing forecasts, partnering with leaders to translate financial goals into action and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. The role supports both day to day leadership decisions and long term business planning.
This position reports to the President and is located onsite in our Toronto office and will work closely with corporate teams in the United States. Annual travel is anticipated at 5-10%.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy and Analysis
- Build and refine financial models that guide strategic decisions and highlight opportunities for growth and profitability.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations that support sound business decisions for the President.
- Prepare analysis and supporting schedules for monthly financial results, forecasts and operating reviews.
- Review income statement and balance sheet activity each month and identify opportunities to improve accuracy, efficiency and profitability.
- Support accounting team through month-end close process, including journal entries and account reconciliations.
Business Support and Decision Making
- Evaluate capital investment projects by analyzing financial returns and making recommendations based on projected outcomes.
- Provide analytical support for customer pricing, profitability reviews, commercial and municipal bids and vendor management.
- Validate pricing models annually or more often when needed to ensure alignment with market conditions.
- Ensure internal controls and company financial policies are followed and effective.
Forecasting and budgeting
- Lead the forecasting process by managing timelines, workflow and analytical review of all submissions.
- Partner with the President and business leaders to develop assumptions, evaluate trends and establish aligned financial targets.
- Support ongoing initiatives focused on profitable growth and help develop metrics and tools that promote accountability.
Reporting and Compliance
- Contribute to the standardization of financial and statistical reporting tools across the business.
- Ensure all internal and external reporting deadlines are met.
- Support internal and external audits and ensure successful completion of all audit requirements.
- Support compliance with US GAAP and JSOX (internal control framework).
- Serve as a resource to Corporate teams including accounting, tax, IT, HR, sales, and legal.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Influence, coach and support talent across areas of responsibility.
- Collaborate with business unit leaders to align financial actions to strategic plans.
- Handle information requests and provide clear communication across cross functional teams.
- Perform additional responsibilities as assigned.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting is required.
- 2-3 years experience supporting or working within a publicly traded company is strongly preferred.
- 2-3 years of management (people leadership) experience
- Knowledge of US GAAP, JSOX and other financial compliance requirements.
- Advanced expertise in Excel including formulas, pivot tables, modeling, large data sets and data visualization.
- Ability to interact with and influence leaders, staff and customers with professionalism and sound judgement.
- Demonstrated initiative to research, interpret and follow up on non standard situations to ensure policy compliance.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to evaluate data, trends and scenarios.
- Skilled at coaching, mentoring and helping others meet performance expectations.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced, high volume environment.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to meet deadlines and work independently with minimal direction.
- Understanding of business unit operations and the ability to identify issues and recommend solutions that support effective decision making.
- Understanding of local statutory requirements for financial reporting.
