SUMMARY

The position is primarily responsible for developing policies and overseeing all human resources functions for two companies with showrooms in Miami, New York, Los Angeles, and Washington. This includes managing recruitment, employment, compensation, benefits, training, health and safety procedures, and employee services, either directly or through managers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain compliance with and interpret HR policies and procedures such as performance, termination, career development, sexual harassment, discrimination, and related matters.
  • Provide employees with information about benefits and assist with resolving benefits-related issues and questions.
  • Ensure compliance with leave of absence programs, workers' compensation, short-term disability, and long-term disability requirements.
  • Prepare payroll batches and submit payroll weekly with accuracy and compliance.
  • Interview, track, and screen candidates and forward qualified candidates to hiring managers for consideration.
  • Process new hires and conduct onboarding and orientation for all employees.
  • Serve as a link between management and employees by addressing questions, concerns, and work-related problems.
  • Analyze wage and salary data and recommend competitive and equitable compensation plans.
  • Prepare staffing and personnel forecasts to project employment needs.
  • Draft and communicate directives to department managers regarding company policies related to equal employment opportunity, compensation, and employee benefits.
  • Consult with legal counsel to ensure that HR policies and practices comply with federal and state employment laws.
  • Develop and maintain HR systems, records, and employment files aligned with management and compliance needs.
  • Manage the analysis, maintenance, and communication of records required by law, regulatory agencies, or internal departments.
  • Oversee HRIS data integrity, ensure timely updates, and support system improvements.
  • Manage onboarding logistics including system access, equipment setup requests, and completion of all required documents such as I-9 verification and E-Verify compliance.
  • Manage the offboarding process including exit interviews, termination documents, equipment recovery, and final pay accuracy.
  • Maintain all employee files, digital and physical, aligned with federal and state retention requirements.
  • Process employment verifications and support employee documentation needs.
  • Lead the administration of annual benefits open enrollment and partner with brokers to support employees throughout the process.
  • Provide coaching and guidance to managers on performance, employee relations, corrective actions, and leadership development.
  • Conduct employee relations investigations and document findings and recommendations.
  • Prepare and present HR metrics and reports including turnover, hiring activity, employee relations trends, and other KPIs.
  • Develop and implement training programs for employees and managers.
  • Partner with senior leadership to support workforce planning, organizational structure updates, and cultural initiatives.
  • Lead talent management initiatives including career pathways, succession planning, and performance evaluations.
  • Oversee compensation strategy, salary bands, market benchmarking, and annual merit processes.
  • Manage diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives and related compliance.
  • Ensure compliance with multi-state employment laws including those applicable to Florida, California, New York, Washington, and other locations as applicable.
  • Lead and manage internal audits related to payroll, benefits, HR records, and legal compliance.
  • Maintain and update the employee handbook and company policies to support compliance and business needs.
  • Manage vendor relationships related to HR technology, payroll providers, benefits brokers, and other HR service partners.
  • Manage the HR department budget and forecast expenses for payroll, benefits, and HR initiatives.
  • Design and execute employee engagement surveys and implement action plans.
  • Lead internal communication initiatives related to HR programs, policy changes, and company updates.
  • Support change management efforts across the organization to ensure smooth transitions during growth or structural changes.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training new employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Master's Degree (MA) or equivalent, or eight to ten years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.Ability to effectively represent information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportion, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply basic concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.Ability to interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

COMPUTER SKILLS

Knowledge of Human Resource Systems, Internet Software, Payroll Systems (ADP Workforce and Total Source), Spreadsheet Software, and Word Processing Software.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, AND REGISTRATIONS

SHRM-CP or PHR Preferred
