Maintenance - Road District

This Maintenance position is responsible for performing manual labor in the construction, repair, and maintenance of bridge decks, retaining walls, stairways, railings, guard rails, fencing supports, roads, and other elevated surfaces.

Essential Job Functions

• Properly and safely operate hydraulic cranes, dump trucks, backhoes, flat beds, forklifts, under bridge inspection vehicles, rollers under six tons, bobcats, bombardiers, trackless sidewalk plows, and other related vehicles and equipment that are used in bridge construction, repair, and maintenance.
• Properly and safely operate a variety of power and hand tools, such as compressors, chainsaws, pumps, shotcrete, sandblasting, and water blasting equipment, jack hammers, portable generators, etc. to achieve daily tasks.
• Climb, move, and work at heights on and under bridges, including piers and vertical trusses, using proper safety equipment.
• Dig trenches with hand tools, build scaffolding or staging, and install as well as remove forms and concrete reinforcement materials for repaired, maintenance, and construction of bridges, bridge approaches, and related structures.
• Break up and remove old concrete, perform subgrade preparation, mix, and pour concrete and wheel sand, cement, and wet concrete.
• Spread rock and materials with precision as needed on County and gravel/paved roads or right of way.
• Rig or install with ropes, cables, come-a-longs, and winches.
• Handle, haul, set up, and operate cutting torches.
• Plow and remove snow/ice from bridge, sidewalks, and public walks, utilizing plows and sanders.
• Clean bridge drains, decks, expansion joints, and road shoulders.
• Seal expansion joints on bridges, aprons, and curbing with appropriate materials.
• Maintain hard-surface roadways, including filling cracks and joints, patching potholes, laying asphalt, digging-out/removing failed sections of asphalt, concrete and chip and seal, setting/removing forms for concrete panel replacements as well as placing and finishing concrete, and hauling rock.
• Control vegetation and hazardous debris along County roads, including cutting and clearing trees and brush, cleaning and clearing ditches, chipping wood, loading/unloading, and hauling debris.
• Assist, prepare, and maintain records pertaining to the work performed, accidents, and the use of materials, supplies and equipment.
• All other duties as assigned.

• Ability to operate and maintain assigned vehicles and equipment properly and safely.
• Skills in time management and organization.
• Effective communication skills both verbal and written.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• One (1) year of experience working on bridge structures/roads as a laborer or equivalent bridge/road experience.
• Valid Nebraska Class B or Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Physical Requirements

This position must be able to sit for long periods of time, operate a computer, office equipment, and may occasionally lift up to 100lbs. This position will walk frequently, often carrying and placing loads requiring bending and twisting.

Working Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to hazardous conditions as well as outdoor conditions in all types of weather. The sound in this environment is moderate to loud.
