Overview

Incarnation Camp is a traditional sleep-away summer camp located in Deep River, Connecticut, on a beautiful 750-acre property with a mile-long private lake.

Incarnation Center is an independent not-for-profit organization. Our overnight camp is open to children ages 7-15 and has the distinction of being the oldest and longest continuously running co-ed summer camp in the United States. Since 1886, our mission has been to provide programs designed to engage campers in nurturing their physical and emotional growth. Through recreation, sports, nature, and arts programs, we create an atmosphere where campers can explore their interests while building character and friendships. Our campers and staff are a diverse group of people coming from all over the U.S.- and all around the world.

We are actively searching for a dedicated program coordinator to help further our mission and support our programs. Every day looks a little different, and flexibility is key to success in this role.

*Studio housing is provided - living on property is required during summer months and optional in the off-season*

Responsibilities

Full training is provided for all aspects of the varied role, however experience in any of the areas mentioned below is beneficial to the applicant.

  • New Family Coordination - Support new families before and during the camp season by assisting with registration, forms, and communication. Help ensure a smooth transition and positive first-time experience for campers and parents.
  • Assist with administrative compliance tasks, including background checks, staff onboarding documents, ACA documentation, and recordkeeping. Ensure accuracy, organization, and timely completion of required materials. Support engagement amongst alumni, campers, and staff through our social media channels via various campaigns and strategies.
  • Work with our after-school progrsm director to support and provide after-school care and activities for local children on our property in the off-season of camp. Supervise play and ensure safe sign-in/out procedures while maintaining open communication with families.
  • Lead outdoor education programs for visiting school groups. Teach nature-based lessons on indigenous culture (Archery, hunting tools, etc.), guide hikes, and support environmental learning and team-building activities, occasionally based around the ropes course.
  • Manage financial aid applications and communication with families regarding required documentation and status updates. Collect, organize, and maintain all data related to aid applications and awards.
  • Various Summer Camp logistical supports, including driving, coordinating off-site trips, parent phone calls, monitoring the summer camp email inbox, sorting mail, etc
  • Facilitate high ropes and climbing activities following safety training. Conduct equipment checks, operate belay systems, and guide participants through challenges that promote teamwork and confidence.
  • Participate in Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor training to become certified, then assist with scheduling and teaching lifeguard skills to summer camp staff at the start of orientation and occasionally throughout the year.
  • Work closely with other Camp program teams on the property to provide support and collaboration over various projects and centerwide initiatives to serve our community.

Qualifications

  • Prior experience or interest in childcare programs or not for profit operations
  • Willingness to obtain additional trainings required to complete role (costs covered for this by Incarnation Center)
  • Excellent timekeeping skills and flexibility for changing schedules dependant on need
  • Ability to prioritize and self manage workload of varying tasks/projects
  • Compassionate approach combined with strong organizational skills to ensure high-quality service delivery. Pay: $36, $40,000.00 per year
