SUMMARY: Providing a nurturing, healthy environment for children, infant through 2y9m; facilitating the emotional, intellectual, and physical growth of all children assigned to their care. Our I/T room has up to 9 children per day, ages 6 months to 2y9mo. This position is for one of three teachers in the room that work as a close team.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Curriculum planning, classroom management, parent contact, support of teaching team, supervision of teaching assistants and substitutes, liaison with part-time staff, attendance of staff meetings, fulfill staff Board of Directors responsibilities on a rotating basis, administrative tasks as needed; reporting of unsafe building and grounds conditions, parent concerns about a day care practice or policy, and individual health and safety needs of children including information regarding child abuse or neglect
DUTIES:
Planning and implementing activities and projects based on the needs of individual children and the group as a whole. Assist lead teachers with all aspects of individual child screenings, assessments, and curriculum development.
Maintaining an educational environment for children which is responsive to their individual needs and levels of development, and which is consistent with the goals, standards, policies, and philosophy of the Center
Demonstrating reliability and consistency in meeting children's individual and group needs and classroom and administrative commitments
Interacting with children individually and within a group to resolve conflicts and enhance child development in accordance with the standards of the Center
Demonstrating sensitivity to the individual needs of students and parents which are the result of cultural diversity, and celebrating that diversity
Observing confidentiality regarding information about children, families, and associates; and using discretion in discussion of children, families, and associates in the presence of other adults and children
Carrying out all classroom-related tasks as assigned including timely preparation of all necessary reports in compliance with the Department of Early Education and Care (DEEC) regulations. Visiting the DEEC website on a regular basis for updates and changes to standards or policies.
Maintaining the health, safety, and well-being of children assigned to their care through vigilant monitoring of individual behavior and peer interactions
Promoting communication between parents and teachers through daily feedback forms, semi-annual progress reports and parent conferences, informal conversations, family/staff meetings and social events, and quarterly contributions to the newsletter (including specific ideas for promoting children's healthy development at home)
Supporting co-teachers through 1) continued, alert, and focused presence in the classroom (i.e., out of the classroom as little and as briefly as possible, and limited personal conversation with co-teachers while on the floor); 2) being willing and able to share responsibility for opening and closing the center; 3) taking initiative in assuming and completing tasks beneficial to the center (e.g., picking up supplies, cleaning storage areas, working with the Board of Directors); 4) assuming an equal share in classroom housekeeping and groundskeeping responsibilities; 5) actively participating in staff meetings, quarterly Board of Directors meetings, spring and fall curriculum and work days, and annual budget reviews
Fulfilling DEEC staff-training requirement of 20 hours per year by course, conference, or workshops attendance (25% in the area of special needs); maintaining current first aid and infant/child CPR certificates, and complete online training modules through the DEEC.
QUALIFICATIONS: EEC Lead Teacher Certified
- Suitable BRC
- At least 21 years old or have a high school diploma or equivalent
- 12 total Early Childhood Education (ECE) Credits; 4 courses total
- One of the courses can be a training CEU. EEC accepts training CEUs from NAEYC and ChildCare Education Institute for the infant toddler certificate 4.5 CEU and the Director certificate 6.0 CEU
- Child development is a required credit course for all applicants
- 3 college credits in Child Growth and Development
- 3 college credits in infant-toddler care and education (for infant-toddler), or 3 college credits in early childhood curriculum, program planning, or behavior management (for preschool)
- 6 other college credits in early childhood education except Child Care Administration (see EEC's Categories of Study: Category #13)
Demonstrated capacity to relate to children with warmth, understanding, and creativity; and to relate to parents with respect and sensitivity (as documented in resume, employment history, and reference checks)
Good physical health (including ability to lift up to 60 pounds), evidence of physical exam within six months of employment (including documentation of MMR inoculation), possession of first aid and infant/child CPR certification (upon hiring or as soon as possible thereafter)
SUPERVISION:
Participation in annual staff evaluation process, including self-evaluation.
Meetings on regular basis with those part-time staff or teaching assistants assigned to them for orientation, training, and feedback

Pay: $ $22.00 per hour
